    High Tide Annex S Land Surface -to-Air Missiles provides Acquisition Radar and Acquisition Range vs Large (nm). After a limited check it does not appear that the radar data found in both High Tide and the Smarter Radar article meet the Percentage of large formula found in 4.2.2.1 Size of Contacts. That formula was multiple the Large 100%; Medium 62%; Small 40%; Very Small 18%; Stealthy 10%. Anyone aware of the formula, if there is one? Thanks

    Hello All, I am trying to fill out a ship form for USS America LHA-6 and under the Phalanx Blk IA it has "F/SA(R)2" listed. I know this means there are 2 of them, 1 Forward and 1 Starboard Aft but what does the "(R)" mean? -Mike

    Just watched the movie "Hunt for Red October". Is the Red October Typhon in the data annex (dont have my copy here to quote page number) meant to represent the sub from the movie? Is it a real type, or a work of fiction? (sorry for dumb questions).

  6. I am stepping through an engagement between an AH-1W vs a ZSU-23-4. The AH-1W, with a 2nd Generation APR-39A(V)1 RWR and AGM-122A SIDEARM at low altitude can detect the radiating ZSU-23-4's Gun Dish Radar at 69nm (ZSU is on terrain <100 feet high)and engage it with the SIDEARM after conducting a pop-up to Medium Altitude undetected between 4nm (Gun dish detection of a Small Target) and 6nm (max range of the AGM-122A). The SIDEARM inflicts 1DP.     Courtesy of PeterG on the A_Willing_Foe group. "First 3 batteries in line 5 km FEBA, last 2 batteries 10 km FEBA, each battery is 15 km apart. Batteries are organized in line, shallow V, diamond or box with launchers 100-750 m apart depending on terrain. Diamond seems more common with 4 launchers and Straight Flush is in the middle of the launchers." Thanks Peter.

    What would the capabilities of an SA-9 Gaskin be,in H4.1 terms, at night versus a UH-1N flying NOE just after going feet dry at a range of 3,500m. Since my understanding for the H4.1 Data Annex, there is no associated Acquisition or Tracking Radars, and the missile guidance is IRH. Since IRH Guidance, the helo would have to be in the Visual Line of Sight of the SA-9. Would this mean that the Gaskin would have to visually detect the UH-1N? If the answer is visually, Surface to Air Visual Detection is 3nm versus a Small Target such as the UH-1N.     Tensions between the United Kingdom and France have crept close to breaking point (again?). The French destroyer Aconit has entered waters it has been told to keep out of. The UKs response is to send 2 Sea Harriers to ward her off. The two Sea Harriers approach at 450kts and very low altitude. Initial range is 16.0nm. The Sea Harriers pick up the Destroyer and continue to close. The Destroyer detects the 2 aircraft at a range of 13.5nm. At 9.5nm the Aconit begins trying to shoot down the incoming Sea Harriers with 100mm guns but is unsuccessful.     The following is half walk through, introductory moves of a scenario being tested. A pair of AV-8B II+'s (section) were patrolling 75nm west of Larak Island@ Medium Altitude, around 5,000', when it's 3rd Generation RWR detects a radar emitting from the island. While the section leader reports in to the Expeditionary Strike Group, they have detected the radar by ESM as well. The section is vectored into conduct a SEAD mission with the 2x AGM-65E Mavericks carried by each Harrier along with Litening II pods. The section descends to Low altitude about 70nm out.     While attempting to fill in an H4.1 ship data form, I've run into a brain-freeze. I was trying to replicate the O.H. Perry example found on page 2-4 of the H4.1 Rulebook. A Mk75 76mm Naval Gun in Air Defense mode has a 3.5nm Air Range, 0.40 01-50% Ph/Mt, a 0.25 51-100% Ph/Mt, a maximum altitude of High, and RA/EO. How was the Air Range Close of 1.9 and Air Range Far of 3.8, in the example, calculated? There will be more questions as I crawl through this process. Thanks,

  13. I would like to know how important the turn replay and historic movement track features are to your experience using SimPlot with Harpoon V. The upcoming issue is the complexity of not only the code to execute turn replay, but also the amount of data that must be stored in the way of historic movement tracks to support turn replay. The more features I add to SimPlot, the more coding that must be done and the more data that must be collected to support turn replay. Already I have eliminated range arcs/circles from historic consideration.
