    ALQ-248 AOEW ES pod

But if the MH-60R already has a Gen 3 ES system and a datalink to its ship does the pod really do anything then? It game terms that is, I'm sure in real life it has a still yet classified use.
  2. Hi All, This pod (ALQ-248 AOEW ES pod) starting in 2021 can be loaded onto an MH-60R but the stat line doesn't give any kind of clutter value it just says "Detects location and course of TARH msls? Possibly create false targets". How should I interpret this game play wise? Should it be able to detect incoming TARH's at whatever the radar horizon is? Can I use it to make a false signature of say a B size ship for example? Thank you all for you help in advance btw. Really appreciate this community!
  3. Welcome! I am also new and in the process of learning. I and another new person met on discord and we exchange scenarios to play and learn if you'd like to get in with us. On my own time I have been going through the rules and trimming them down as a lot of points have fluff that don't include actual game impacting mechanics. Next is to make like 1 pagers for shooting, aircraft, etc that will be new player friendly as I run games for friends who do not have the patients to read 100s of pages of rules.
  4. Do the authors go to many conventions/is Harpoon played at a lot of conventions? Once things are safer and schedules return closer to normal I'd love to attend one.
  5. Thank you Tony and Kmart. So if I remember correctly that would give it 2 shots when it fires either both at 1 target or split between 1 different ones? There seems to be a lot of bits in the rules that aren't actually rules so finding which bits of information are impactful to gameplay and which are fluff is tricky!
  6. Hello All, I am trying to fill out a ship form for USS America LHA-6 and under the Phalanx Blk IA it has "F/SA(R)2" listed. I know this means there are 2 of them, 1 Forward and 1 Starboard Aft but what does the "(R)" mean? -Mike
  7. That is a shame they didn't leave something like that in for version V. I have read the jumpstart and plan to again here after finishing the main rules to hopefully give some more clarity.
  8. Cheers I have a feeling the US side alone will give me plenty to learn with in the meantime to learn the basics. How did you go about learning H-V? My plan was to get down movement of ships (starting with a staple like the A. Burke), then detection mechanics then shoot missiles at the ship under multiple conditions. From there not exactly sure, or if that is even the correct way to go about it.
  9. Greetings! I am a long time miniatures and tabletop wargamer but brand new to the world of Harpoon outside of the Tom Clancy Novels. I saw an article in Forbes recently on the release of 5th edition and it really sparked my interest! I have never been able to find a good naval wargame that really captures the depth and scale until now. To that end, I have set myself a goal to host a weekend event of Harpoon V for my buddies a little more than a year from now as my bachelor's party/guys getaway weekend. The rough idea is for it to be a modern day conflict in the South China Sea similar to "Cold Wars: War with China". I have picked up "Harpoon V Rules" and started to devour them. I have noticed that perhaps the better way to learn would be to mock up a couple of units and play it out to understand the mechanics. I was thinking of purchasing next "Harpoon V Player's Handbook", "Harpoon V America's Navy" and " Haproon V America's Aircraft". What other materials should I pick up at this point? Particularly to get the Chinese units? Also, any advice you have on learning this wonderfully detailed system would be greatly appreciated! Certain tips and tricks, common pit falls, online resources and tutorials, etc. Thank you all in advance. -Mike
