Hey everyone, Taking a second crack at getting into H4, and trying to get into the basic tutorial scenarios and can't get past filling out the darn Ship Ref. Sheet...this thing alone is taking me over an hour for one ship for the basic AAW scenario, how do y'all do it for a full CVBG and air wing?? It has been a while since I worked on an update due to life and diversions, but I have a new inspiration so a new update will be out in a few weeks at most. The big inspiration moving this forward is Larry Bond's acceptance of my offer to use SimPlot to referee a scenario at the Origins Game Fair in June. Each of the sides (USSR and NATO) will have a paper planning map made from my new SimPlot GIUK map (not yet uploaded to Harpgamer). Wow, now that the LCS escorted convoy (another thread) has defeated the exocet strike, the convoy is now continuing on its way to its destination. The mine group's actions, suicide boats and the possibly most important Kilo SS will come into play. In order to get the SS into the fight, it needs to speed up. This began my concern for its safety in doing so; how will cruising effect the Kilo's detectability? I ran a quick exercise. Are there any examples of GCI radar sets inthe H4.1/HT data annex? After determining the performance of the respective French and Yemeni AI radars and seeing how what little performance that they have is halved one altitude level below, and two levels above, I'm thinking that the Yemeni's may have needed directions to get to the ballpark.

I suspended working on upgrades for SimPlot and SimPlot Viewer in favor of an overall rewrite of the program that would include both single and multiplayer modes. I have been experimenting with a language called Xojo so I could create PC, Mac, and Linux versions without having to maintain multiple programs. The experiment did not go well at first, but as I learned to cope with Xojo's way of doing things, and the differences between Mac and PC, I am at a point of increased confidence in Xojo. In Annex "S" Surface-to-Air Missiles, as examples, both the 9k31M Strela-1M (SA-9b) and 9K35M3 Strela-10M3 (SA-13) have "Y" in their respective "Optical Back-Up" column, but what is it back up to? There are no associated radars with these two systems. Is there some other IR or similar sighting capability not referenced in Annex "S"?

If my earlier "SA-9" and "Back-Up Optical Sighting" posts were not clear, how about the questions/assumptions posed a different way. Is it safe to assume that in H4.1 all of the land-based SAM's found in Annex S without inherent radar systems are intended to be part of an overall air defense coordination network which will facilitate targeting information from radar systems – to C2 nodes - to those firing units? That a radar set or anti-air system with an inherent radar should be part of the scenario T/O.
