Hi All, This pod (ALQ-248 AOEW ES pod) starting in 2021 can be loaded onto an MH-60R but the stat line doesn't give any kind of clutter value it just says "Detects location and course of TARH msls? Possibly create false targets". How should I interpret this game play wise? Should it be able to detect incoming TARH's at whatever the radar horizon is? Can I use it to make a false signature of say a B size ship for example? Thank you all for you help in advance btw. Really appreciate this community!

A OH Perry FFG (4th gen cmbt sys) launches its SH-60B Seahawk Blk 0. The Seahawk flies 60nm at 270 degrees and lights its APS-124 SS radar. It detects a contact at 15nm at 270 degrees (75nm at 270 degrees from the OH Perry). The OH Perry has its radar dark so can't detect the target. The Seahawk detected the target with its radar. Is there a data link between the Seahawk and the OH Perry? If not, what kind of useful data can be relayed to the OH Perry by the Seahawk about the contact? Useful for targeting? I think if it had been another OH Perry that made active radar contact then there would be a data link (since they both have 3rd generation or better co…

Hello all from Windsor in the UK. I have a copy of Harpoon 4.1 and High Tide but never gotten round to playing it. The release of Harpoon V gives me the nudge to really give it a go. I've ordered the print books from wargame vault and downloaded the quickstart. Does anybody have any general advice for a sensible way to go about learning the game? In my experiments in the past, keeping track of unit locations and separation was a bit of a faff, do people recommend going straight to SimPlot 2 for that? TIA for your suggestions, Windscale.

Hello All, I am trying to fill out a ship form for USS America LHA-6 and under the Phalanx Blk IA it has "F/SA(R)2" listed. I know this means there are 2 of them, 1 Forward and 1 Starboard Aft but what does the "(R)" mean? -Mike

  6. Started by Avi,

Greetings! I am a long time miniatures and tabletop wargamer but brand new to the world of Harpoon outside of the Tom Clancy Novels. I saw an article in Forbes recently on the release of 5th edition and it really sparked my interest! I have never been able to find a good naval wargame that really captures the depth and scale until now. To that end, I have set myself a goal to host a weekend event of Harpoon V for my buddies a little more than a year from now as my bachelor's party/guys getaway weekend. The rough idea is for it to be a modern day conflict in the South China Sea similar to "Cold Wars: War with China". I have picked up "Harpoon V Rules" and s…

Howdy folks! jeffteacher23 here. I read RSR way back when and stumbled onto Harpoon v3 paper game about 1989 or so. I really like to run/referee a game between different players, As soon as v5 drops I plan on getting a copy and learning it. Then I'll need some players. I'm in Mainland China just north of HK, so it will probably be slow going until action is joined, then it will have to be on a weekend for the resolution via zoom and email for privileged communications. Any interest? I hope so!

Hey guys, just starting out with Harpoon 5, quick fundamental question regarding how to read the weapon info: Example: Arleigh Burke Flight III F&A(8)4 fwd & (8)8 aft Mk41 VLS w/9 msls total, typical loadout 38 SM2MR, 6 SM3 Blk IA/IB, 16 SM6, 32 ESSM, 4 VL ASROC, 24 Tactical Tomahawk//F/2A 3 SPG-62 I read this as the MK41 VLS can fire from Front with 4 mounts each having 8 tubes, and/or the Aft with 8 mounts each having 8 tubes...but what does "w/9msls total" mean? Does it mean each turn 9 missiles can shoot total from the Front and/or Aft? thanks in advance,

Hi there, I just joined this community. I have played Harpoon since early '80s, starting with Version 1 and running the Resolution 502 campaign when the supplement came out. I have not been playing for many years and with lockdown I resumed and started a remote play campaign again, which is now halfway. In order to handle the campaign I built a series of scripts to handle movement, radar and sonar searches, aircraft launch and land, using a simplified ruleset. You may have a look at the attached image. Now I see this fantastic new edition of Harpoon V and the SimPlot tool, which is vastly superior respect to my homegrown Python scr…

Once Harpoon5 is published, will this forum's name be changed to reflect the most current version, or should there be a new forum while preserving the H4 content?

  12. Started by darthvader170,

Kevin, this is a request, Can be added a 1 sec time advance, I know it is not necessary but I've been thinking about it, and the accuracy and possibilities it brings to the program. Thank You. Will we see an updated Simplot when H5 is released?

  19. View File 2019 Origins System Test These files are recreations of the System Test played at Origins 2019. The game was refereed by Larry Bond and the game turns were run by Kevin Martell (kmart494) on a MacBook using an earlier version of SimPlot2. The old files are not compatible with the current version of SP2, so I recreated them using the latest version. Download and extract the Origins System Test folder to SimPlot's Scenarios folder. You will also need to download the GIUK1 map files from the Maps download section if you do not already have it. The map files can go in the Maps folder or directly into the Origi…

  20. Started by kmart494,

It has been a while since I worked on an update due to life and diversions, but I have a new inspiration so a new update will be out in a few weeks at most. The big inspiration moving this forward is Larry Bond's acceptance of my offer to use SimPlot to referee a scenario at the Origins Game Fair in June. Each of the sides (USSR and NATO) will have a paper planning map made from my new SimPlot GIUK map (not yet uploaded to Harpgamer). Larry and I will then take orders from the players and run the turns in SimPlot. Players will update their paper maps accordingly and make decisions. This is a "hybrid" game idea, which blends a computer with a live convention setti…
