  4. View File Falkland Islands Detail Map This is a high resolution map of the Falkland Islands for use with Falkland War scenarios. The map has no borders or land areas beyond the Islands proper. This allows for the placement of air or surface strike units beyond the Islands without the need for a very large map file. Submitter kmart494 Submitted 08/01/2018 Category Maps

Has anyone played this scenario? What were your thoughts as far as the Air-Naval-Ground interaction. I've been slowly getting up to speed on with H4.1 and the GCS, and this scenario is of great interest to me. Once I play it, I'll be sure to post an AAR. Thanks, Pete

  6. File Name: One China - Bogies File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 02 Apr 2016 File Category: Scenarios This is the "Bogies" scenario from the "One China" scenario trio in Harpoon Naval Review 2000. This scenario file shows the starting locations for units with a fixed location, and the general areas for units or formations that would be set up per player desires. The exact composition and formation of the US CVBG, the CVBG airborne assets, the PLAAF attack aircraft formations, and the PLAN submarine locations would have to be determined and put into the scenario before beginning the battle. This scenario is designed to use the Northern Taiwan /…

Courtesy of PeterG on the A_Willing_Foe group. "First 3 batteries in line 5 km FEBA, last 2 batteries 10 km FEBA, each battery is 15 km apart. Batteries are organized in line, shallow V, diamond or box with launchers 100-750 m apart depending on terrain. Diamond seems more common with 4 launchers and Straight Flush is in the middle of the launchers." Thanks Peter.

A correct understanding of Fire Control Directors with Cmd guided SAM's from the yahoo admiralty trilogy group. > HHQ-7 has Type 345 Castor II Fire Control Radar. After > unsuccessfully reviewing Smarter Radar, and High Tide, I found The > Castor II listed in the H4.1 Annex K - Fire Control Radars where it > was expressed to be an FCR for the Compact 76mm/62. I have a SH-60B Block 0 Seahawk that lights its APS-124 SS radar from medium altitude attempting to find a Large surface contact. The radar LOS from the chart on pg 5-3 of the rules indicates that the maximum LOS is 175nm. The APS-124 maximum range for a large target is 160nm - so, 160nm is the maximum detection range. Section 5.2.5 of the rules for Airborne Surface Search Radars (SS) states that "these radars will pick up surface contacts and VLow air contacts at one-tenth of normal range". Question 1 - If I'm reading that correctly the detection range to a large ship will be 16nm (160nm max of the APS-124 SS divided by 10). Is that correct? Question 2 - If…

Greetings! I am a long time miniatures and tabletop wargamer but brand new to the world of Harpoon outside of the Tom Clancy Novels. I saw an article in Forbes recently on the release of 5th edition and it really sparked my interest! I have never been able to find a good naval wargame that really captures the depth and scale until now. To that end, I have set myself a goal to host a weekend event of Harpoon V for my buddies a little more than a year from now as my bachelor's party/guys getaway weekend. The rough idea is for it to be a modern day conflict in the South China Sea similar to "Cold Wars: War with China". I have picked up "Harpoon V Rules" and s…

Howdy folks! jeffteacher23 here. I read RSR way back when and stumbled onto Harpoon v3 paper game about 1989 or so. I really like to run/referee a game between different players, As soon as v5 drops I plan on getting a copy and learning it. Then I'll need some players. I'm in Mainland China just north of HK, so it will probably be slow going until action is joined, then it will have to be on a weekend for the resolution via zoom and email for privileged communications. Any interest? I hope so!

During and following the "French Connection" I have been reading up on the rules, and individual ideas in the yahoo admiralty trilogy group, for more insight into such air-to-ground attacks. 6.3.5 Air Attacks on Land Targets opens with specifically "Air attacks against ground targets are resolved in the same way as those against ships." As pointed out in some of the yahoo AT threads, this seems to lend itself to come up with a table for attacks on such targets, weighting the chance of hits based on the number and size of target found on the General Attack Table. Mention of the General Attack Table seems to indicate an ability to go ahead and target point target…

Hellos, I am hearing quite a bit about 'notching' AAMs these days. I am curious was this a tactic back in the Cold War or is this something new? Thanks.

View File Bugout This is the SimPlot setup file for the Harpoon V scenario "Bugout" that is featured in The Naval SITREP issue #60 (April 2021). The installations are on the map, but the ships are not. This way, players may choose where to place them. All the naval ships and missiles that may be used in the scenario are importable, and are located in the Units folder. Civilian ships are an optional rule, but they are not included in the Units folder. They are very simple to create, with the only differences being the type and maximum speed (and size class, but that is not tracked in SimPlot). This scenario is compatible…

  19. Attached is a pdf link in which there is a section devoted to discussing the operations the Argentine Type 209 SS "San Luis" during the Falklands War of 1982. Some take aways, aside from their technical fire control problems: Maneuvering to ranges of of 10,000 and 5,000 yards (5nm and 2.5nm respectively) for a torpedo attack. That is would take about 6.5 minutes for impact at the longer range. That both of his attacks apparently went undetected as they were not attacked in response. That these operations were conducted approximately 800nm from their home port of Mar del Plata. Find document here.
