i've found my bigbox verion of harpoon 2 but when i try to install it i get a "you cant run this game on your computer " msg. My pc runs Sea Power etc which led me to search for the old classic harpoon stuff that i have such fond memories of. I have downloaded dosbox hoping that would sort it but I hav'nt really got a clue what to do. Is it salvageable or would I be better off with Ultimate Harpoon which i think contains my fave 'Dolitovs raid'?

I expect our guru @TonyE will give you the info on running in dosbox but certainly harpoon ultimate commander edition   (HUCE) includes most of the old versions and they should run on win11, they run on my win10. Plus you get the advantage of the newer much more versatile and powerful game and associated scenario and platform editors, new scenarios and many of the old original scenarios too. I often go back to some of the old USNI scenarios but play them in the new GE.

Since you have Ultimate, H3 version 3.6.3 in that package is a close analogue of Harpoon II (it is literally Harpoon II updated to work well on Windows).  There are newer H3 versions in the Ultimate package which have both pros and cons as compared to 3.6.3.  

Then there is the Harpoon I/Classic line of games that is the other 'half' of the Ultimate edition package.  That is what donaldseadog here is referring to.

H3 3.9.4 and HUW ANW 3.10 work flawlessly on Win 11, but IMHO H 3 3.6.3 definitely has the better game engine and fewer bugs. There is an issue though with the graphics under Win 10/11. For me it works if I curb down the graphics resolution in the .ini file from value 107 to value 105. 

And yes, Doolitov´s Raid is my fav, too! This means Harpoon Commander´s Edition, the latest evolution of the Harpoon 1 / Classic line. There is similiar scenario in H2 / H3, "To protect the Queen". Playing it gives You a really good feeling about the differences beween the two Harpoon lines which both are so great, even after decades.

Also, I run H2 on Win 11 using DOSBox-X.  Main> Quick launch program runs it just like the good old days.
