EH-60 question

Featured Replies

I understand that in order for a standoff jammer to be effective, it needs to have its radar switched on. But what happens when, as with the EH-60, the jammer has no radar? Can it still function as a jammer? Initial testing seems to indicate that it can't ... :(

The EH-60 Quick Fix is an old platform entry. And you're right, it does need a radar for the jammer to work. I'll review the DB entry, probably add a weather radar to serve the purpose.

I was unaware of the necesity of an active radar to activate the ECM to jamm enemy radars, mea culpa !.

After, I was testing the range of ECM vs. jammed radar, and I see the range of ECM, if listed as >1 (I've tested the same APQ-161A only with 10, 50, 100 and 200 n.m. ranges, but the results are clear), is in the game EVER 200 n.m.

It's true my observation ?

I've do another test. The range of the active radar ECM sembles ever 210 n.m.

If the ECM is installed in a surface ship or similar, the range is affected also by the radar horizon (circa 26 n.m., sensible to the height of the ships' masts, I supposse), if the victim/jammee is also at sea level, if the victim is airborne, his height also matter (i.e: with a ship ECM you can jamm a plane flying at High at 210 n.m., but no if the plane is flying at Low a 210 n.m.).

On the same note, should the An-12 Cub have a radar/ECM system?

This one is also a hold over from the old stock DB, but in this case I believe the intention was to create an ELINT platform (hence the ESM).

Any range > 0 does result in the jamming working, though the impact it has on the detecting radar may be small.

The general rules for effective jamming.

1. If you are using a jammer to escort friendly planes, keep it as close to the friendly planes as possible to help 'shield' the friendly planes.

2. If you are using a jammer to try to blind enemy radar, get the jammer as close to the enemy radar as possible.

ECM with range 50nm can reduce a 360nm ranged radar to an effective range of 193nm in the game. A 20nm jammer can reduce that same 360nm radar to 301nm range.
