Scenario for HCE/Westpac: Worst Case Scenario

Featured Replies

This scenario, 'Worst Case Scenario', is for play by BLUE in the Westpac Battleset.

This is a "monster scenario", depicting a war between Russia/China/DPRK vs USA/Japan/ROK/Vietnam across multiple fronts in the Western Pacific. It has over 1,700 aircraft, nearly 50 bases and nearly 100 ships in play. It is PC memory intensive, and labour intensive. It will be a challenge to keep control of all of your units, let alone successfully employ them. But thats half the fun, right? :P

You will need the latest version of the HCDB.

Please take this scenario for a spin and let me know if you have problems, issues, thoughts, opinions, whatever.

The scenario is NOT ready for release, so please do not distribute it.

BUMP for updated scenario (20 June 2008)

back to monsters? ;) So maybe we change our focus: You return to the monsters; I´ll do the small ones :)

I´ll test it asap after finishing "Origins of the Storm".

Regards,

Ralf

He's not the only one working on a monster scenario either. Mine is not quite as intensive, though it does have roughly 1000 aircraft per side. ;)

I´ll test them both

Happy Easter!

Ok, I have started playing it.

Yes, Brad, this is the mother of all monsters :o Incredible large and difficult to handle. I have started ferrying my assets to the front and flying some counterattacks. There are constant air attacks on my forward bases and it is hard to keep control of it.

So far everything runs smooth and fast on my PC. Kill ratio is 4:1 for me, but that does not really matter if the real numbers of red ac are very high and they come in very fast.

I´ll need a week or so for this monster.

Think I´ll be having real fun with it.

Ralf

Hello Brad,

have tested it for some days and now it crashed on me. Screenshot is attached. :(

Maybe it is just too large?

Game engine is 2008.027, my PC is a Dual Core 5000+, 2 gigs RAM, Vista Home Premium.

The scenario is - crash aside - very difficult to handle. The action is so fast and furios, that you have to play it 1:1 in order to keep control of the game.

Maybe this one has just hit the ceiling?

Regards,

Ralf

Thats certainly a possibility, Ralf. It seems stable enough on my end, but obviously I'm not the one who is gonna be playing it.

Thank you very much for your efforts.

Maybe I'll try and pare the scenario down a bit and see what happens.

Hello Brad,

Hi Ralf,

Any chance of a save game just before the crash? I doubt the scenario is too large.

Sorry, no current save game. The last one saved was a few hours old. I can restart from that point, though, making regular saves and waiting for the crash. I´ll try it.

Hi all,

ok, gave it a second try. It crashed again. I think this one is unplayable or close to it. Even if it wouldn´t crash it is too big to be handled IMO. You can hardly control all those units.

This time I used the latest ge built 2008.031 and the latest HCDB. My PC is, as I said, fast: Dual Core 5000+ 2gigs RAM. So I think it is really scenario related.

I´ve tried to attach the latest saved game, but this is not allowed. When the game crashes I had 03:22:52 to go.

Think you have to cut it down, Brad.

Ralf

Thanks, Ralf. Send the save game to HC3@harpgamer.com

ZIP up your files guys, then attach them, saves space and all that jazz.

oops, sorry :(

Hello,

just testing it with 2008.033 and it runs great so far. So it looks like it was a ge problem; not caused by the monster size of the scen. I´m going to play it until the end!
