Newb to HUCE

Howdy!

About a month ago, I dusted off an old box and found my original copy of Harpoon 2 and thought I'd give it a whirl on my XP box. No dice, so I saw the HUCE package from Matrix, and downloaded it. Let's just say my entire weekend's been spent trying to bomb Soviet air bases. I was supposed to clean the house, take out the trash, do the dishes, make dinner. . . yeah, none of that happened (happily).

So being 're-newbed' to the game, I had a couple of questions:

1. Is there a good strategy guide that helps catalog system capabilities (for instance, all of the US radars) or weapons systems? Having been away from it for so long, I really have lost a lot of the perishable knowledge I used to have.

2. What's this database I keep hearing/seeing about? Is this something that would help me with #1?

(Re)-Welcome on board!

You can download updated DBs here.

- Simply download it (1980-2015), unpack the latest common.db and replace the common.db file on the HCE/HUCE directory.

About the radar ranges and other stuff you want know, you can execute now the pfBuild2005, push "Import New Database" virtual button (previously browsing and linking the common.db file in the HCE/HUCE directory), and you will can consult the latest DB.

- Same with the other DBs, as the Cold War DB.

Rob,

The Harpoon Battle Book from 1991 is still available from Amazon for 3 cents plus shipping. This has a lot of info about tactics and how radar ranges are calculated. for the stock battle sets (the original battle sets). When the EC2003 battle sets and later use the data base you mentioned in your post. The stock db which came with the latest update from Matrix was generated in 2013 with the updated game. It has been updated since the last official release of HUC. This is the database that can be modified. To view the db you will need Access run-time which is available from Microsoft for free.

The link to the latest version of the Official HC database is:

http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/files/file/235-hcdb-150511-1980-2015-era/

TonyE (the programmer) has been updating the game, fixing bugs and making improvements to HC. There is now a Scenario Editor that will work with Windows 7 and 8.

The latest HC updates can be found at:

http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/topic/17623-hc-versionsupdates/

So far in 2015 TonyE has made 7 updates with more to come.

I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one who doesn't get his chores done when playing HC.

Welcome back. I hope the info in this post helps.

Eric

Thank you Gents! I'd been tied up with work over the weekend, and hadn't had a chance to download the DB. I plan on it tonight. And eeustice thanks for the heads up on Run-Time for Access!

More to follow. . .
