July 30, 201411 yr My LA Class SSN detects the next hostile sub and avoids Barbel´s fate: slowing down to 5 knots, pinging the sub and two torps are fired. Two hits! The hostile Juliett Class is dead.
July 30, 201411 yr Author Now perhaps it's time to play the Red side on both scenarios, perhaps tougher ... And a hint on both sides and both scenarios, it's relatively easy to get a Mínimum Victory with some simple goals (example,to sink a BB, SSN or CGN against the blue side, probably a good propaganda for the red side and a loss of moral on the blue side), but harder to get Total Victory, as usually requieres to get an on station time for amphibious, merchants or MPS ships, to reflect the wider strategic campaign goals.
July 31, 201411 yr Yes, I´ll give them a try playing red side. Some suggestions for making it harder as blue: - long range bombers for red - more powerful SAGs for red, maybe one group centered around a Kiev Class Carrier and one centered around a Kirov or Slava Class Cruiser - more and better subs for red - more and better long range recce birds for red
July 31, 201411 yr Oops...draw! Game Time exceeded. This came somewhat surprising since I never reduced the speed of the three convoys. Anyway, game over.
July 31, 201411 yr Author Ok, I will do a look to the victory conditions. On an almost ready scenario (for the last week, but later the almost definitive scenario file became corrupted!) almost all the red elements do you request are present.
July 31, 201411 yr Author Also, the main idea when I design a scenario it's not to make it hard or easy, is to make it credible and to use it as historical simulation. On this pair of scenarios, my idea about they are credibles is if both sides can win, if not is a failure to my design and historicity aims.
August 1, 201411 yr Also, the main idea when I design a scenario it's not to make it hard or easy, is to make it credible and to use it as historical simulation. On this pair of scenarios, my idea about they are credibles is if both sides can win, if not is a failure to my design and historicity aims. I see. Interesting approach. Long ago, when I started scenario writing, I chose another way: I make them only one side playable and for this human side as hard as possible. I think this not a better or an bad approach, but just another way to do it.
August 1, 201411 yr Author As matter of fact, it was ready seven days ago, but the file was corrupted!!! At least I can open it with the OLD scenario editor, and traslate the data to a new file (is based on 7th Fleet third scenario)
August 6, 201411 yr AAR follows. Usual spoilers apply. * * * * * Achieved victory with 0:05:12 to go. Lost one cargo ship, the USS Cape Nome, torpedoed by a Soviet Victor III. No other friendly losses. Sank 16 enemy ships (with 11 helos aboard) and four submarines, including that marauding Vic III. Turns out the F-5 with 2.75 inch rocket pods is quite a useful ASuW tool, as long as the target ship doesn't have SAMs or an effective long range air defense gun.
August 9, 201411 yr Author Note: the USS Barbel (SS-580) was not a SSN, was one of the three last operational SS on USN. I'm not sure the 11 helicopters were down when embarked on ships. On this scenario only a Soviet ship is capable of carry 1xKa-25 helicopter, the Uporny (Kanin Project 57A DDG). I think the other 10 lost helicopters are lost in ferry flight from Cam Ranh Bay to Soviet ship groups (as programmed on the previous 7FLT1 scenario, for replish losses of helicopters on the Soviet ship groups), I don't reprogrammed those flights (for that I should delete Cam Ranh Bay and add the new formation edition patrols and long range aircraft patrols), I imagine the helicopters did take-off and fly to the group ZWS (on this scenario without helicopter capable ships) go without fuel and are losses.
August 10, 201411 yr Author Modification 10 August 2014: slightly reduced time on station of the Blue side to get combined Mínimum and Total victory conditions. Now should be theorically feasible to meet for the Blue side the victory conditions ever if the convoys starting point is the farthest to the destination point (Cubi Point/Subic Bay/Manila Bay zone).

Musta been. I don't think I engaged any in flight.
