Bribes for helping out with HCE

We're looking for a few good men to help out around here and we're willing to offer some small tokens of appreciation in return. More specifically, we're looking for folks to:

* write documentation for HCE, something that has been sorely needed for a while now

* create good issue reports and follow them through resolution (bug testing/smashing)

* write and share new scenarios, especially ones that exploit the newer battlesets

* create pretty after action reports (AARs) with screenshots and annotated/explanatory text, or even better, videos!

* create a wish list of features you would like to see added to the game

* speak up and tell us you're a player, what you like, your favourite scenarios, etc.

It is a very incomplete list, so if you want to help with the forum, provide support, be a marketer, programmer, etc, we'd like to hear from you.

The plan is to review contributions on a monthly basis, and if you stand out from the crowd in one or more of the above areas, we'll send you a book from Ian Slater's WWIII series, as described here:

Word War III series by Ian Slater

I will be very busy this and the next year, but my idea is to build some more Cold War or Colonial War scenarios with the Cold War DB (it's not perentorious to expand it now, it can wait), and probably some of them in exotic places/battlesets.

Also other scenarios with the WWII DB.

And also remake some of my unpublished scenarios of Harpoon Classic, but I've now very little spare time ... :(

Hehe, you are doing quite a lot on the HC front anyway, we need more players to step up and improve the game. You already have and continue to do so year after year.

While this would be a big project (and not one I would be able to do), may I recommend the following...

New version of the scenario editor that can run under 64-bit systems

I understand it would probably be easier to create a new SE than rebuild the existing one.

While there are workarounds for the current scenario editor (use Windows Pro, etc.), I think as more and more people upgrade their computers every few years, it would be a smart move to have a new version of the scenario editor that people can use "out of the box."

Mark

(Heck, you get me a scenario editor that works on my machine and I will give you two new HC scenarios every month for a year. That should keep people busy.)

Things I can do right now (i.e., until the new SE is written, assuming it happens someday)...

* I will try my hand at AARs for HC. I may not be able to write new scenarios for HC right now, but I can play the ones other people have written and tell you what I think.

* If anyone wants to take any of my ANW/HUD-4 scenarios and write an HC version of them, please go ahead. The only thing I ask is that I get a mention as the original author and that you also say something nice about ANW and the HUD-4. Like suggesting that people try the ANW version of the scenario, too.

* In fact, if anyone would like me to write scenarios for ANW/HUD-4 that are designed with conversion to HC in mind (i.e., the maps, the platforms being used, etc. are selected with ease of conversion to HC in mind), I can do that...in fact, I am happy to consider requests for specific scenarios.

Anyway, please count me in...I've got a lot on my plate right now, so I'm not sure how much I can contribute, but I'm happy do what I can to help keep HC alive and well.

Thank you Mark, your efforts for H3 are great plenty but anything you want to contribute to HC is great!

Dreaming big, I like it when it doesn't depress me ;)

Alrighty, we have a winner for March!

We have no idea whether it was related at all to our little promotion, but there has been a noticeable flurry of activity in recent weeks and we're happy for it in any event. :D

You guys did not make the decision easy. We had wish lists, issue reports, new scenarios and after action reports, hitting upon the kinds of things we were asking for. Some of you even touched on more than one of these.

In the end, the choice was new HG member Grumble. Congrats! :)

So, Grumble, send me a PM and we'll get one of the Slater books off to you. B)

Guys, honored, really.

Yes, Tony's post had a hand in it :) as follows,

this contributing and interaction is something I always would have loved to do,

still remember playing Harpoon in the old days, gosh it was almost 20 years ago!,

I enjoyed it immensly but also had an ache for the potential what more this game could do, working (studying at that time) in computer sciences I had my hands ithcing terribly to twist the code just that little and/or to discuss it with fellow addicts at least.

Finding you guys here doing it and asking, actually bribeing me to take part ... well, lets just say I'll send the PM and thanks for the book but being here carries it's own reward already! :D

I was binding my time (well, living my life) to respond to this topic, to the "bribe" too, but sure, documentation, code, bugs, you name it, I'd love to and hope I can find the time too.

My wishlist is also mounting too, as I'm interested in wishes that are within reach of the current GE (as far as I can see) with good effort/reward ratio I'm giving them some "dry runs" before dumping the buffer.

So thanks again and keep going on!
