Does that mean you guys can use the image? Sorry I am kind of dumb when it comes to copyright law and I don't like them much.

 

 

 

The creative commons attribution license allows for commercial use of images with that license type. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/

 

As for the GNU Free Documentation license I really don't know exactly how it applies here! In particular I don't know how we need to present the images under this license in order to legally use them nor do I know if they can be used legally in a closed-source product. The one saving grace may be the PE unpacking the images back to .bmp files that the player could further modify.

Nice, you can always count on the internet community (I don't know anyone here). I will keep looking up public domain images for fun and because it helps you guys.

@TonyE: alright so I should find straight public domain pics basically.

Warhorse, are you using a web-safe 256-color palette or something, I think you could have a more optimized palette. You don't need to use a web-palette or include Windows colors. I'm getting results more like the attached.

 

It was just a quick and dirty conversion using the generic settings on the Windows 7 Paint program. I noticed the deficiency in some of the colour schemes, but wasn't sure how to fix same, or if it was even possible.

The main issues I see here are verifying copyright permissions or the public domain status of the pictures. One could always contact the copyright holder to inquire of permission.

Thanks, do you know any good programs I can get for free that read excel database files? Preferably lightweight programs compatible with windows 2000?

 

Sorry I am still around, just a lot happening in the world recently.

There's the Open Office suite, which is sort of a freeware version of MS Office. The zip file is about 150 meg, tho, so I don't know if you could call it 'lightweight' ...

You might be able to find an older (and smaller) version somewhere.

I've used OO for a few years and I seem to remember my original version was a reasonable size although it only handled the basic office applications (quite enough for my purposes).

You could also check micro soft web to see if they have a reader like they do for Word.

There are also a few excel readers available from shareware sites like download.com and tucows.com.
