  1. And I have another question... Does the "Staff Note" function on the Scenario Editor work? Can I input a Staff Note when I design the scenario, that the player will see? And do you know where I can find all the Staff Notes entered so far? There is great potential in this by (for example) entering a Staff Note, that will allow the Player to attack a certain base that was off-limits before that Staff Note came (that would simulate an escalation during a conflict).
  2. Thanks for all the replies, I used the ctrl+alt+s trick and it helped a long. I wonder, how you guys plan follow-up strikes? Do you use the "repeat attack" option for the AI? Would it make sense to have the AI repeat the attack, if for example the AIs strike package survived but had to turn back early to base after burning up too much fuel due to an aerial engagement? Or do you simply plan another attack for the AI a couple of hours later? How does the AI behave if the number of aircraft allocated to the strike are not available (for example if some were show down during a previous attack)? Does it call off the entire strike or does it launch it with available forces? Too many questions, I am sorry...
  3. Thank you for the information. Now, I'm having another problems... At the beginning of the scenario part of the enemy ships are damaged. I wondered if it has to do with them running aground and ran the scenario analysis on the editor. And yes, it shows them running aground. However, when I look at their positions, they are in the middle of the sea. Isn't that strange? Does it have to with placing them too tightly together in the formation editor?b
  4. There is a generic installation under the 'Intl' (international) entries that is modeled like a SAM site, i.e. it won't show on the map unless and until detected. Thanx for the advice. I found the international "Secret" base in the list of airfields, but unfortunately it will only host "large" aircraft. I wanted to use it in order to simulate long range bomber strikes from different directions, but now I can't base them there...
  5. Ok, this is driving me nuts, LOL I'm producing custom Harpoon scenarios, but the AI seems not to do what I am asking him to do. I have programmed multiple air patrols and air strikes to take place from starting from different AI bases against players units, yet when I play the scenario it seems that only half of the assigned attacks come at me. I looked again if the aircraft had enough range to accomplish the tasks they were given and it all looked fine. Does anyone have an explanation for this? Could it be that by programming too many aircraft launches in the scenario editor, the AI gets some kind of an "overflow" and only launches part of them? Cheers, Alex
  6. Thanx, that's good advice. - How do you use unknown airfields? - Do ELINT stations help the enemy alot? - I will try to cut back on the player's assets.
  7. It's my pleasure. I would appreciate a bit more feedback from everyone playing the scenarios. Point out errors, make suggestions. I'm glad to adapt them. I will start working on the next scenario this weekend. Time to change the theatre of operations again...

This is the fourth scenario in the series. PRELUDE: Operation “Northern Swipe” was a complete success for ECON. After ousting the Americans from Iceland, Greater Russia combat aircraft started landing in Keflavik. The Icelandic government filed its application to join ECON the next day and became the 35th member of ECON. Champagne parties only lasted a few hours, as disaster stroke swiftly further south. Communications with the Azores ceased abruptly; the last reports from fishing vessels describing what appears to be numerous enemy flotillas in the archipelago. With ECON forces still recovering from the bloody battle around Iceland, all available assets have been hastily relocated to Spain and Portugal to fight against this new attack of the US Coalition.

  10. Thanx for the feedback. I am soon going to release an updated version of the scenario, making it tougher for BLUE to win. The fourth scenario is in the works, stay tuned.

This is the third scenario in the series. PRELUDE: Following the victory of ECON against the US backed coup in the UK, the Labour party formed a government and the UK officially joined ECON. The most important result of the struggle over the UK happened elsewhere however. The Russian Kuznetsov carrier battle group came under attack by US aircraft in the North Sea. Whether the sinking of a Udaloy class destroyer by 3 Harpoon missiles fired by US F/A-18s was a mistake or deliberate action will never be known. The Putin-Merkel pact was signed the following day, forming a military alliance between ECON and Greater Russia, dragging Russia into the conflict. Other nations picked sides quickly too with South American nations joining the US led alliance, followed by Canada and Japan. China and Australia decided to stay neutral for the time being. The biggest surprise came from Israel. Happy with the progress towards democratization and the crackdown on Islam militants in the Arab nations, Israel decided to join the ECON alliance. The official request for help by the ousted Icelandic government against a US “invasion force” led to the effects that follow.

  13. Frankly, I've never used them before. :-)
  14. Thank you for the AAR, CV32. You did a great job, taking few losses. Stay tuned, I'm working on the sequel GIU3. One thing I noticed is that I should try to coordinate AI air strikes better in the future. It will make life harder for the human player.
  15. It's up, enjoy!
  16. Was this done during the famous Vulcan raid on the Falklands?
  17. I am working on a major modification for this scenario, since its (in my opinion) a bit too cluttered in the opening phase to be played correctly. Stay tuned!

This is the first scenario in the series. PRELUDE: Following the fall of the Saddam Hussein Regime in early 2002 the situation in the Middle East has become highly unstable. The Islamic State (IS) managed to overthrow the Iraqi government in 2016 and then spread the insurgency into the neighboring countries of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Forced to act, in order to protect their interests and oil supply, the United States (US) invaded Iraq again in 2017 and also installed strong military presence in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Although the threat of IS was practically destroyed by these actions, the continued presence of US forces in the Middle East let tensions grow even further. The joint Israeli-US air offensive against Iranian nuclear facilities in late 2018 was the spark that ignited the fire. Many young Arabs, up until then foreign to insurgency, picked up weapons and joined a newly established democratic movement to depose the ruling regimes of the Middle East and oust American troops from their home countries. The second Arab spring had arrived, this time directed against the US. After 6 months of guerrilla warfare between US troops and democratic insurgents, the US decided to withdraw its troops from the Middle East. The last convoys of troops were however not sent back to the United States but seemed to be relocating to Pakistan, where a CIA-backed junta ousted the radical Islamic leaders that had recently gained power. Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal was dissolved and the establishment of a strong US presence in Pakistan was a clear message to the new democratic Middle East governments that any interference in the oil supply would result in US intervention with airstrikes out of Pakistan. Britain left the EU in early 2018 an action which led to another spark. In the Berlin European summit in late 2018 the now 33-member EU (plus Switzerland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Slavic Macedonia; minus Great Britain) declared its consolidation creating the European Confederation (ECON). Angela Merkel was elected first President of ECON with the leader of Greater Russia Vladimir Putin, still recovering from the mysterious assassination attempt in early 2018, attending the ceremony too. In early 2019 representatives of the newly elected governments of the Persian Gulf states and India met via video-conferencing with representatives of ECON addressing their concerns over the threat of American forces in Pakistan. Further meetings followed leading to the events that follow.

This is the second scenario in the series. PRELUDE: The conflict between the ECON-India-Arab coalition in the summer of 2019 was the first event in a cascade that was to follow. Although the coalition managed to oust US forces from Pakistan, that success was only short-lived. The American counterattack using submarine launched cruise missiles and long-range bomber strikes out of Diego Garcia severely gutted the recovering Arab forces and rendered most of the oil terminals useless. The following CIA-backed insurgency in the Middle East brought the newly elected Arab governments to the brink of collapse. ECON and the US referred from directly attacking each other across the Atlantic and in May 2020 the Reykjavik peace treaty was finally signed. The worse seemed to have been over, but then disaster stroke once again. The UK general election of 2022 ended in chaos after right-wing militant groups attacked voting stations, where strong results for the labour party were expected. The attacks seem to have been triggered after the labour party had declared its plan to initiate talks of the UK joining ECON again (after leaving the EU in 2018 in the first place). Whistle blowers revealed documents linking the CIA to the attacks; however solid evidence was never retrieved to back up this claim. Diplomatic tensions rose swiftly after that between the UK and ECON, with the UK Tory government declaring a state of emergency and asking for US military assistance to safeguard the British islands. This was the drop that spilled the cup, forcing ECON to intervene.

  22. Short After Action Report (Warning spoilers): This is an interesting scenario and quite challenging, because your forces are quite dispersed in the beginning. You need to assemble your air forces fast, if you want to survive this one. I started by transferring all available air assets to bases in Poland and put up some CAPs over the Baltic countries. Projecting air power far into the Baltic Sea was difficult, mostly because of effective SAMs on the Russian sides. There is a huge amount of SAMs around Russian bases. I launched my B2s against the Kola airbases and changed the loadout of the B52s to ALCMs. A couple of E3s provided valuable AEW services. The Russians came in pretty dumb with air strikes going for the land units and SAMs, largely ignoring the air bases, which allowed me to massacre their forces. Beware that you Mig29s are little match for the enemy fighters, they will die rather fast. Your Su22s and helicopters are mostly useless against land targets due to the heavy SAM coverade, I used the Su22s against the small flotillas of Russian ships in the Baltic, since they lacked proper SAM coverage there. Repeated B2-/B52-strikes were effective against the Russian bases, although the large number of SAMs there managed to shoot down tons of missiles unfortunately. I had quite a buch of F16s, which I equipped with JASSMs and JSOWs, which worked out fine against the closer Russian bases and SAM installations. My navy took a little pounding by Russian aircraft, mostly the German MCM vessels seemed helpless against the Russians. Unfortunately I was presented with a sad result, since the enemy managed to meet his minimum victory conditions first, probably because I lost quite a large number of aircraft (mostly obsolete Su22s) to SAMs. Alltogether an interesting scenario, the geography of the battlefield with your forces being quite dispersed in the beginning made it interesting. Maybe decluttering it from all the (useless) helicopters and small transport aircraft would enhance it.
  23. I'm sorry to ask this, since it may have been answered before, but the search option didn't return any results. How does refuelling actually work in HCCE from the logistic point of view? Does it matter if I let one tanker refuel 10 aircraft or if I use 2 tankers for that job? Apparently tanking would happen faster with 2 tankers, but does that influence the range gained by the refuelling aircraft, ie does a higher tanker / refueled aircraft ratio increase the total range of the refueled aircraft? Thank you for your inputs. Cheers, Alex
  24. Hi everyone. After a very long pause from Harpoon, I am back playing the game. I'm going to put up a new version of this scenario, followed by the rest of the series. Cheers, Alex
