  1. Thanks Brad. I was afraid that might be the case. Still, was able to gather some good information regarding war at sea with the PRC. The tyranny of distance is going to be the #1 factor and the most important asset either side will have is tankers. Because current PLAN carriers rely on the ski ramp, their aircraft can't really loft with full full/weapons so they have to load more tankers on a smaller flight deck. Long range bombers will also be forced to rely on tanking assets, which reduces sortie rate and size.
  2. Does the stock Db have DF26 or similar IRBMs? I haven't seen any listed and there is a Missile site in the bases menu. Thanks, Byron

Deleting the base and building from scratch worked.

While playtesting a scenario (attempting to get bombers to attack a CSG) I had some seriously strange stuff happen. A base with 36 Badgers and 36 tankers was tasked with launching 18 tankers and 18 bombers. Several times the bombers got within 200 miles of the CSG but turned around. Added 3 recon aircraft and launched one with two tankers 1 minute after scenario start, then launched 12 bombers and 12 tankers one hour later. Saved it as a different name entirely. Not only did 18 bombers show up (just like the original) but a second flight I didn't order PLUS the recon birds with 12 bombers on their heels! The 12 bombers attacked (proving that I needed a recon bird to put eyes on the CSG to get the bombers to attack) so that worked out. But...where and how did the other bombers show up? It was an entirely different file name. What I'm doing to try and change this is I deleted the base and built from scratch and ordered the recon birds with 12 bombers an hour behind. Hopefully this works out. I also deleted all the other files so hopefully they don't sneak back in again. Scratching head in Florida.... Byron

Thanks, Brad, I'll try that again. Might be that I have only one leg of the course so far

Additional dumb question: How do I get my units (ships) to have a starting speed? I've tried it every which way I can think of and nothing seems to work. TIA Byron

Exactly. For this scenario its assumed that the PRC has pressured Japan to force all US forces from their territory so the next nearest US base is...Guam. I've put a regiment of PAC3 and THAAD on site. Thinking about parking a couple of Aegis cruisers right off shore too, that radar could come in handy. Any idea why Scenedit closes when I click on the Time Limit button?
  8. Byron replied to Byron's topic in General
And it's been only 20 years since I created a scenario so... And as soon as I try to enter a time limit it crashes to the desk top. Running Win10

    DOH! Thanks Tony!

How does this happen? I've looked and I don't see anything in the list of platforms (except for barges) but I know scenarios are writen with specific numbers of SAMs. It would be especially nice if we could add Aegis Ashore and THAAD sites to high value targets like...Guam. Thanks in advance... Byron
  11. Thanks, Tony. My friend and I are going to model some scenarios for the future US vs PRC Westpac war
  12. Is there an up to date (or nearly so) database for PLAN and PLAAF platforms/weapons? Thanks, Byron

I get a chance, I'll write a scenario and see if I can get it to do it again. Honestly, I rarely get two subs in a position to make an attack from the same same bearing and within 10 miles of each other. It was in the Gulf of Oman where it opens out to the Indian Ocean and a Red CSG was coming out.
  14. Byron replied to Byron's topic in General
Not really reporting, just something I'd never seen before. The subs were 10 miles apart and the ship I was shooting at was a decent amount of off bearing from my LA that I just didn't think of fratricide. Now I know. No biggie, Brad, just a head scratcher

Boy, thats gotta be rough on the paratroopers

I've got a scenario that requires airborne personnel to dropped onto a beachead. I've simulated this by flying the aircraft with the troops/equipment to the beach head but I have no freaking clue as to whether this worked or not. Can someone lend me a clue?

Playing an IOPG battleset, just had one of my subs fire a torpedo at a DD, instead the 2 ADCAPs killed my second LA. Harpoon weirdness....
  18. Seen that one myself but only when there's a lot going on and my pitiful CPU/memory is being taxed.
  19. The only thing for sure that works for me is to split your SEAD shooters into two groups and manually launch your HARMS from as close as you can. Try to come at a 90 degree axis to each other. Also, write down the numbers of each unit being attacked so you can be selective. With HARM your missile shooters will only launch at the radiating units, so if one gets its radars taken out you can forget about it. Same works with your ASuW attacks, come in at 90 degrees from each other (say 5 AC coming from 180 and 5 coming in from 270). This will tend to reduce killing the same ship several times and also gives you a better chance at the HVU which are usually to the rear of the formation. Byron
  20. I learned a lot about computers and DOS trying to get enough memory to run that damned game, enough that I was tickled to death when H97 came out
  21. And I've had several missiles decide to kill a ship that was reported as already sunk...go figure
  22. Byron replied to Byron's topic in General
Tony, I started using a multi-axis approach and that seems to have helped. I have one more CVBG to get through and I'll know then. I still have weirdness in that both with HARM and Harpoon attacks the scenario is letting me shoot from 125 miles out which gives you diddly for accuracy.

Would never have thought that I would fire 20 Harpoons at three ships and only manage to sink one
  24. Byron replied to Byron's topic in General
It's a pet peeve. Harpoon has been like since my first version back in 93 when I had to make room in DOS. At least you fixed the bug where as soon as aircraft killed their target they'd head home. Ran across a weird one in the EC2000 Med battleset, HARM shooters opening fire at 130 miles and getting hits. I had to send the next group on patrol and watch until they got closer. One more for you: Is there a way to keep Harpoons from all wanting to hit the same dead ship? Even though you select one ship, hit it and it "sinks" the next group wants to hit the same ship.

I'm back playing Harpoon again, thanks to Tony, so I thought I'd join up. Byron
