I agree with the author's article that there must be a "better equilibrium point somewhere between rampant retrenchment and unbridled hegemonic primacy." The unknowns include how other potential foes (Iran, China, Russia, etc) react to an American effort to find that balancing point, and then what will be the counter-reaction. My own view of that is that thank goodness there are enough people in the USA with the will and the means to keep a "serious problem" from emerging.

Looks like perhaps the F-4E was gunning for the Hormone B. I can't think of another good reason to hold up at distance, except to try and bag the helo. Another possibility is that they are waiting for an opportunity to attack en masse - together with any surface launched antiship missiles - in which case one could reasonably expect more F-4E contacts to show up.

Those changes are mostly due to the overly optimistic estimates of F-35 performance (go figure, eh) back when it was first introduced in the DB. My best advice is not to rely on the data reflected in any DB entry until it has seen attention.

The F-15 figures largely in the next iteration of the DB, so you can expect adjustments here. Including that obvious error with the APG-63 (probably a longstanding holdover).

Brad, I need clarification on your course. Right now all ships are heading 290T. Ladnyy is 090T at 1.4 nm from the last merchant. If you head 000T you will open the range with the formation, not get closer. Very well. Turn slightly to heading 0300T and increase to flank speed, until 0.5 nm from the rear most merchant (Dnepr) and then return to previous course and speed.

We are thinking alike. Ladnyy will go to flank speed along heading 000T until it is within 0.5 nm of the rearmost merchant, and then return to its previous course and speed.

Agreed. Nothing that would jeopardize mutual support. But small, sudden course/speed changes might elicit a reaction or at least mess with their OODA loop, lol. Right now that F-4E appears hell bent on testing the convoy's air defence.

Ladnyy ought to energize the MR-310U (NATO Head Net C) air search radar and the Volga (NATO Don Kay) surface search radar. Place the fire control radars - MR-105 Turel (NATO Owl Screech) and both MPZ-301 Baza (NATO Pop Group) into standby mode. Do not illuminate targets yet. Yishten: I am doubtful that contact A017 is a single contact. If it is, I suspect other F-4Es on a deceptive course, perhaps Vlow altitude, approaching from another bearing. Potential weapons include AGM-65A Maverick, or unguided rockets and bombs. I am thankful we outrange all possibilities. (Don't forget your Bell Squat ECM gear, either.) Any ideas about what we can do to seize the initiative? I have to admit I am not a fan of being forced to react to enemy actions, rather than the other way around. I am tempted to play with speed and direction of Ladnyy just to see what the enemy does, if anything.
