Is it possible to design a senerio in one DB (HUD 3 1.6.2) and change it to another (HUD 4 1.1.) ??? Thanks again. Steven

After designing a scenerio and closing the editor, I'll open the game and open the scenerio that I just created. All of the enemy ships will appear on the screen. This seems to happen after being in the scenerio editor and displaying both sides at once. What gives? Thanks, Steve

Here's a nice report from Liuzg150181 re-printed with permission: Taken from my blog entry: http://liuzg150181.tripod.com/blog/ "Perhaps almost always, a pc game session against a human player - especially up against a veteran with tactical and strategic cutting-edge - would be much more pulsating and exulting than against the built-in AI which is more often than not of absymal or haphazard performance. No, the game is not about killing whales using harpoons(so environmentalist please don't flame my blog!), or that matters. As clarification the 'Harpoon' game is air and naval combat simulation game based the board game conceived by former naval officer Larry B…

In 1980, leftist guerillas began a long and bloody campaign in Peru. As a scenario possibility...what if the Soviet Union had been pro-active in their support of the guerilllas, sending supplies, "military advsiors," etc., starting around 1981? First, how would they have done this? A full-scale invasion seems extremely unlikely. A blockade of Peruvian ports also seems unlikely, but the Soviets could probably have done this--a large visible task force and a squadron or two of submarines. Any thoughts on how plausible this is? The most likely to me seems a moderate form of support--effectively a task force that included supply ships, some way to move s…

I have noticed, when I set up missions for various sides in ANW, that the game does not start missions for the side I am playing automatically. For example, if I want a task force to patrol an area defined by certain reference points, the game has no trouble starting patrols for the sides controlled by the computer, but does not start them automatically for the side I am playing. It does not even seem to remember them (if I open Edit Mission, they are not even there) and makes me set up the missions all over again. It also does not launch aircraft for formations or missions automatically. It does remember ASW/ASuW/AAW zones, but if I design a scenario with a coup…

Hi everybody! Some of you may remember me as the creator of many monster scenarios at HarpoonHQ. Well, I still love the DB2K and have written my first ANW scenario under it. How do I get it published for testing? Thanks. Cheers, Klaus Behrmann

The Hunt for The Arctic Sea Hi - I'm a new member to the forum but always been a fan of the Harpoon Classic Edition. Continued under the Harpoon Commanders Edition banner by Matrix Games. Bearing in mind players love of new scenarios - particularly those based on actual events. I'm surprised no ones mooted the idea of creating a scenario based on the mysterious events surrounding the disappearence of the russian cargo ship Artic Sea. Supposedly taken by Pirates and for which coastguards lost communications with, when the pirates switched off all comms & satellite tracking system - when it entered the busiest shipping lane in the world - namely the Engli…

"Battle Stations. Battle Stations. All hands man Battle stations. This is not a Drill!!" We're having a Harpoon III contest and you're invited! MATCHPLAY Harpoon3 players are challenged to try this series of scenarios from either side. At the end of each game, send me the saved game file and I will send you the next scenario. It will be customised and based on the results from your previous game. Overall, there are three scenarios for each participant; three playable by France and three playable by the Dutch side. Players' results (losses to you and your enemy, Victory Conditions met, ammo expended, and ROE violations) will be tabulated and sent to…

The True North Strong and Free The 23rd new scenario of the year! When President Gorbachev was notified in 1989 of a plot to bring down the Berlin Wall later that year, he made several crucial strategic decisions. The Russian President decided to suppress the East-German Revolt, speed up the privatisation and efficiency-focus in the Russian state industries, and invest in maintenance, spare parts, and training for the military. For President Bush and his successors, the emergence of an Eastern European market and the stabilisation of the Middle East meant they could peacefully cooperate with, though quietly dislike, Russia. However, Europe found itself more a…

Just brainstormed the morning and thought how some of you would think of the US being the aggressor, the Red side? I've been researching the US Navy's return to Subic Bay and the reaction of the Philippines and China yet I haven't heard any reaction from Russia or North Korea. Some groups in the PI are against the return of the 7th Fleet and China seems neutral for the most part. So first off, has anyone read how China and North Korea are reacting to the US returning to its Cold War roots in Subic and second, your thoughts of the US annexing the PI in a Harpoon 3 scenario? China would appear to be the forerunner against the US occupying the island nation and with Nor…

I'm looking to beef up a scenerio involving Iran and the US. If the US had struck targets within Iran in order to uphold UE/UN sanctions and without an offensive attack by Iran (against Israel or the US) how would countries within the Arab League of Nations look at the attack on a brother country? I'm curious if heavily Arabic/Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE and Bahrain would shun the attack, remain neutral or offer support? How about Turkey which is not within the Arab League but its majority religion is Muslim and has a significant US Air Force base within its borders (as Bahrain and the HQ of COMFIFTHFLT). Since I am not the expert on US/Arab relations…

I would like to create a Harpoon scenario in the near future and would like to include one of my favourite fictional aircraft, the MiG-31 "Firefox" from the Craig Thomas novel. Possibles: * A carrier strike * A land mission * An AAW battle with a US version. Maybe 20 on each side. Thoughts?

I was playing around with some ideas and I was hoping for some feedback. First, am I correct that ANW allows multi-player scenarios? Are there any servers up right now? Second, it occurs to me that multi-player scenarios will often be different than regular scenarios (or, at least, there are some things that have to be taken into consideration for a scenario to really work as a multi-player scenario)... * Balance is essential...either the sides have to be pretty equal in firepower OR one side has to have some kind of handicap to balance things out (i.e., the stronger side can only lose a certain number of planes or it will fail to meet its victory conditions)…

Hi Folks, Finally getting up to speed on this platform. I modified a scenario to game out using different blue assets. It's the VN- RP one in the Spratlys, Westpac Battleset. I added a Burke to come in from the West and launched a Romeo with four Hellfires and LR tanks. The helo tracked and ID'd the Skunks and eventually they turned Red once Side ID was established. I tried launching at that point, but the allocation screen kept saying no illumination for the AGMs. Thinking it was a min range, sensor problem, I moved the helo out a couple of miles, went active on SS, tried again, no dice. Finally got to bingo state and okayed the staff message to RTB as soon as I got …

Okay, I was bored and I put together some tables for randomly generating scenario ideas. I figured I would share them with folks. Use as many as you need to come up with a good story. Enjoy! I hope they inspire many fun scenarios! First, we need to know when the story takes place: Year of Crisis 1-2: Cold War: 1970 + 1d20 3-4: Turn of the Century: 1990 + 1d20 5-6: Present and Near Future: 2010 + 1d20 (This gives us a range from 1971 to 2030, which is actually beyond the official range of the HUD-4, but allows for more historical and speculative scenarios. There are enough older platforms in the HUD-4 that one can handle a lot of the 1970s p…

I'm brainstorming various ideas and I'd like a reality check on this one... "Water War Template" Basic concept: Water is already reaching dangerous shortages in some places. Especially when the territory is disputed, and perhaps if it is not, but still temptingly close to a border, a nation might decide to seize territory. This is not an invasion--it is simply a land grab. But it is land with a river on it (or both shores of a river that both countries share). Naturally, the country that has lost territory will be upset and will try to get it back, perhaps the help of allies or an international (perhaps UN) coalition. I imagine that any valuable resource i…

I very much doubt this scenario will ever come to pass, but what if... Terrorists, working with Iran, and able to develop a small nuclear weapon, which they sneak into a major city and then detonate. In Boston, near Logan airport, killing tens of thousands of people and doing billions of dollars of property damage. Among the dead are thousands of children. Twelve hours later, the President is on TV and he says, "Throughout this long struggle, we have always tried to remember that we represent civilization, rather than savagery. That ended with these murders. Now we are at war, and we will do whatever is necessary to win. To our allies and friends around the…

I apologize in advance if the following are silly questions, but I'm trying to figure out how to say certain things in a Harpoon orders text file. As I understand it, "Good luck and Godspeed" is the traditional closing salutation for American naval orders. Is it used in other English-speaking countries or is some other phrase used? If so, what are those phrases? (I'm guessing it might be "God save the Queen" in the U.K., but I honestly don't know, and I also don't know what Canada, Australia, and other Commonwealth nations use.) I would also be interested in the phrase used in other countries. I imagine that sometimes it is something that would translate fai…

Playing around with ideas... This is a revision of a World War III concept I was playing around with a few months ago. I've tried to trim it back a bit, maybe make it a bit more realistic. I'd be grateful for feedback on this one as a background for wargame scenarios... How plausible is this? What else might happen (or what might happen instead)? What am I missing? Here goes... What would happen if, in 1985, the Soviet Union joined forces with Iraq and Syria (and some help from India, which had a military pact with the Soviets at the time) and invaded Iran? The Soviet Alliance is able to seize control of most of Iran, including its ports and oil fields, in a few …

I'm looking for feedback on a general "outline" for an alternate history World War III I could use to develop scenarios... November 1, 1983. After the Falklands War, having studied British tactics, American assistance, and the economic effects on the West of fighting a war, the Soviets decide to seize control of Western Europe. Their main approach is threefold: destroy as many NATO bases as possible with lightning strikes, sink as many NATO ships as possible with submarines, and conduct a massive land invasion of Germany and France. Once Germany and France are secure, and the Soviets have control of their ports, the rest of Europe can be negotiated with. N…
