Scenario Design & Discussion

A forum for discussion of scenario design for Harpoon Classic/Commander's Edition

AAR: My Love is Vengeance [spoiler Alert] A Harpoon Classic scenario By Brad Leyte "Revenge is a dish best served cold." Many years had passed since the Cole was bombed, but there were still many men aboard her who remembered that fateful day. When the Captain announced the mission to his crew, everyone could feel the electricity in the air. Every man swore an oath to himself. Today would be the day that the Cole balanced the books. It was Retribution day. With only a 24hr. time frame for the operation, the aircraft from Diego Garcia were immediately sent aloft. I didn't have a target yet, but DG was a long ways off. Better to have them on hand and…

Spoilers apply! * * * * * * After Action Report: GIU3 - Operation 'Northern Swipe' Minimum victory was achieved at 9:10:05 to go, with the seizure of Keflavik by airborne assault troops delivered by A400M airlifters. Enemy airfields at Reykjavik, Akureyri, and Jan Mayen had already fallen. Friendly losses included: * Project 677 (NATO Lada) class submarine Saint Petersburg, lost while trying to clear datum after closing with the US Navy's George Washington carrier strike group and torpedoing the Bunker Hill class Aegis cruiser Antietam. More to follow ...

  3. I played this scenario as BLUE (USA) This is quite a big scenario! At the beginning your forces are more or less surrounded by RED bases, ships and aircraft. The assets in Thailand can be ignored, I couldn't find any use for them, only 3B2s are available at Guam and quite far off in the beginning. What was a bit frustrating is the fact that many of my Super Hornets on the Stennis were not outfitted with desirable outloads. I only had 4 aircraft fit out in "Intercept" role. I launched two Hawkeyes and pretty soon dozens of chinese aircraft started coming in from multiple vectors. I immediately readied two dozens of further aircraft with AA-loadout but the first 30…

While looking at another issue it has become apparent that in a situation where a group has more than one unit that is capable of catering for aircraft, aircraft units launching from the group might have their home base changed for no apparent benefit during group split and join operations resulting in the unit RTB to a different base unit from where it tool off. Is this good/bad indifferent?

File Name: First Navy Jack File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 18 Sep 2012 File Category: Middle East A Harpoon Commander's Edition (HCE) scenario for the Middle East Battleset. This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. In 1980, then Secretary of the Navy Edward Hidalgo directed that the US Navy ship with the longest active status should display the First Navy Jack until its departure from service. With the decommissioning of the carrier USS Kitty Hawk in May 2009, the honor of flying the First Navy Jack passed to the USS Enterprise. Now, during the final deployment of her career, the Big E has been diverted from her return voyage to take on one…

Get Your Goat A new HCCE scenario for EC2003 Mediterranean Battleset (RED side) Relations between Spain and Morocco deteriorated after the departure of the Socialist government in Madrid, re-opening numerous old wounds. A brief but anxious confrontation in July 2002 had failed to resolve a longstanding quarrel over certain disputed territories in the Strait of Gibraltar, principally among them Leila (called Isla Perejil in Spain), Ceuta and Melilla. Morocco now claimed sovereignty over all three areas, declaring that Spain should be satisfied enough with its claim to the Canary Islands. In reply, Spain has renewed a permanent military presence at Ceuta that had not e…

This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. During the past few years, and even more so during 2012, the international news headlines have been dominated by stories of the suspicion surrounding the nuclear activities of Iran, whether that nation is actively pursuing a nuclear weapons program, and if so, the mortal threat faced by Israel. Slowly but surely the story has been building toward a potential flashpoint, with increasing concern about the possibility of unilateral action …

After Action Report: Bear Goes South 2 A scenario by jugasa77 This is a pretty short AAR, but I felt I owed the author at least a few comments. Bear Goes South 2 is a new HCE scenario for the EC2003 GIUK battleset. I played the scenario using beta 2009.017 and the HCDB database. This is a fairly large and busy scenario. And challenging. I lost both the HMS Illustrious and the HMS Invincible to brutal SS-N-19 SLCM attacks from Oscar class submarines at short range. So short in fact that I had virtually no opportunity to defend. My base at Orland, Norway, was also under constant threat. In the end it sustained only minor damage, but there were seve…

  16. I am looking for the defences that were set up in the Dardanelles in the Cold war, colorfully enough, the Turks apparently got some 9.4inch guns from the UK, but is there anywhere were I can find what else they had to defend the straits up to Istanbul? Thanks!
