A OH Perry FFG (4th gen cmbt sys) launches its SH-60B Seahawk Blk 0. The Seahawk flies 60nm at 270 degrees and lights its APS-124 SS radar. It detects a contact at 15nm at 270 degrees (75nm at 270 degrees from the OH Perry). The OH Perry has its radar dark so can't detect the target. The Seahawk detected the target with its radar. Is there a data link between the Seahawk and the OH Perry? If not, what kind of useful data can be relayed to the OH Perry by the Seahawk about the contact? Useful for targeting? F-15E strike mission An F-15E is approaching enemy air space. A Mirage 2000 is scrambled to intercept. Initial range is 80nm and the Mirage picks the F-15 up on radar. Its not until the planes reach 60nm the F-15 picks up the Mirage. Both planes are at medium altitude. The planes close quickly, and engagement turns (30 second turns) ensure. The F-15 is armed with a Sidewinder AtA missile which has a range of 9.5nm, giving it more reach than the Magic the Mirage is carrying (6nm). Hi, Here is a bug I found with SimPlot2 on Mac OSX. I created a custom map for a Falklands scenario which covers Falkland Islands and the Argentinian coast. This map works well on a PC, but when I sent the .txt and the .png files to a friend using His Mac, he complained about SimPlot2 crashing. Hello All, I am trying to fill out a ship form for USS America LHA-6 and under the Phalanx Blk IA it has "F/SA(R)2" listed. I know this means there are 2 of them, 1 Forward and 1 Starboard Aft but what does the "(R)" mean? -Mike

Do you think it is normal that CZ are not dependent on passive range? This means that a good sonar (BQG-5 WAA / LF-MF / 6 nm Passive Range) has the same number of CZ a bad sonar (AQS-22 / LF-MF / 1.5 nm Passive Range).

Anyone keeping track, or have comments on, some of the current events? Was it British and French subs that collided recently? And a USA ship and sub at the straight of Hormuz? And then theres North Korea, about to fire a satalite, hehe.

When searching for a sub using passive sonar I'm a little confused on how the initial detection works. I understand the tables, calculating the probability, etc.; however, when contact is made I'm not sure how accurate the initial location is. I've included a simple diagram of 2 squares (searching ships) that have made passive contact with a sub. The next step is for a helo or ASW plane to go find the sub based on the 2 ships' passive contact. I understand that the passive sonar contact won't tell me range or depth but does give direction. Issue #37 arrived today. Just in time to rebuild some more harpoon interest prior to the upcoming MBX. Includes gaming the Iranian air defense. It vaguely reminds me of my attempt to tweak the Kola flow chart a number of years ago, but obviously greater thought, effort and research went into this. Wished for an update on Harpoon and how it is developing in line with the Trilogy harmonization process.

In Annex B of H4.1, the F/A-18C/D lists among its sensors: "...FLIR and Laser Spot tracker can be carried in a pod." It is not listed in as ordnance. What type is it? In Annex G2, an AAS-38A/B is described as "FLIR for F/A-18" but does not list the spot tracker, could it be inferred?

I was looking into what air defence radar might be in operation in the UK and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_Integrated_Air_Defense_System#United_Kingdom suggests a combination of Lockheed-Martin AN/TPS-77 & AN/FPS-117 (which I understand are essentially the same, but the TPS-77 version is mobile) and a BaE Systems AR-327 in Cornwall. I wondered if my copy of H4.1 had stats for those radars so went to look. The annex notes on page 1 of "Data Annexes 4.1 - Ships, Aircraft & Weapons" suggests there should be a section J2 for "Land-Based radars" but my book seems to jump from "J1-6 - Annex J1 Naval Radars" straight to "K-1 - Annex K - Fire Control Radars". Sorry guys, but, as I go along trying to play a scenario, I get a lot of doubts. One is this: SITUATION: A frigate launched a helicopter that has no radar. An enemy ship (small) is about 70 nm. distance. From altitude of 900 m. (low) helicopter (in optimal weather conditions) has a visual LOS (med alt vs. small ship) of 79 nm. Question 1: being the enemy ship in the visual LOS of Helo, is the mutual visual detection automatic, or we have to roll a die? Question 2: assuming that the helicopter has spotted the ship, is able to communicate the exact location to its mother ship, so that she can, for example, launch Harpoons? A sub v sub scenario from the High Tide boxed set. This is my second AAR based on sub verse sub. I know a bit more about the rules so more stuff might come into play. I’m also plotting movement on graph paper for the first time, rather than just having two subs approach each other and measuring closing distance. LA class submarine is up against an Oscar sub and tensions are high with sea state 4, so neither has deployed their towed array sonar in case they need to suddenly manoeuvre. A correct understanding of Air Intercept Radars with inherent Surface Search capabilities under the Smarter (and Simpler) Radar rules found on the Admiralty Trilogy yahoo group. So in summary, for the UK Blue Fox, I can utilize, separately, the Air Intercept and Surface Search capabilities per the High Tide Data Annex as the Air Intercept data is identical for the Blue Fox in both the "Smarter Radar" and High Tide while the Surface Search data is apparently missing from "Smarter Radar".
