View File SimPlot2 SimPlot2 (short for simple plotter) provides Harpoon4 paper rules players an opportunity to accurately track the location of units in a graphical environment. Specially made background maps can be used to create a sense of location for the battle. Additional unit graphics can be utilized to enhance game play such as range circles, ESM/Sonar bearing lines, limited unit perception and unit text tags. Multi-player games are possible using a referee to control the movement of units, and to determine the outcome of detection and combat. Player-oriented files are sent from the referee to the players so they can only see whic…

The official Harpoon 5 Jumpstart is released. This is a preview of the H5 rules in the form of a scenario playthrough. The Jumpstart is a free download. It can be downloaded here, and will be available soon at the Wargame Vault (http://wargamevault.com) or at The Admiralty Trilogy (http://www.admiraltytrilogy.com/). For your behind-the-scenes information, the Jumpstart scenario was run by me using SimPlot. There were actually three scenarios executed, with each one resulting in tweaks to the rules, data annexes, or the scenario graphics. The Guardian scenario contained therein is the third and final version. Some changes to SimPlot were also implemented to faci…

  4. Just learned how to use SimPlot, wonderful program I was wondering if there will ever be an option to use MGRS (Military Grid Reference System) or Lat/Long (Decimal or Degrees) coordinate systems instead of the usual X and Y, I personally run cross domain Kriegspiel campaigns so either system (But especially MGRS! Is critical for successful integration with ground. That and a world map would be lovely! I recognize that you could in theory already do Lat/Long Decimal Degrees by using X and Y and just syncing up reference points somewhere, but to me MGRS is a lot more useful.

Read the rulebook and was trying to work through the Jumpstart: Guardian scenario as an attempt to learn with some guidance, when I realized that a lot of the examples in the scenario are out of date of the current errata, so I have some questions. The rulebook only mentioned the evaporative duct as being usable by ships, and yet the scenario has a helicopter using the duct to extend its radar horizon. Can aircraft use the duct? If so, where is that rule located? I think I figured this out by going through errata documents, but can someone confirm that the sensor type modifier for RF FC solutions no longer exists? As I understand it, instead of a modifier, n…

  6. Can anyone out there explain the discrepancies between the arcs for the Mk92 CAS and Mk92 STIR on a 1989 O.H. Perry between the "America's Navy" book and the "Tattletail" scenario? The fleet book has no specified arcs for the directors, which means they should use the ones from the mounts they're associated with, in this case P&S for the CAS and F for the STIR (though since the CAS is also listed as a radar in general with 360 degree view, I assume it can also direct in 360 degrees). However, the "Tattletail" scenario has an O.H. Perry with an F arc for the CAS and a P&S arc for the STIR, the complete opposite of the fleet book, not to mention a PW/SW arc for…

  7. I would like to know how important the turn replay and historic movement track features are to your experience using SimPlot with Harpoon V. The upcoming issue is the complexity of not only the code to execute turn replay, but also the amount of data that must be stored in the way of historic movement tracks to support turn replay. The more features I add to SimPlot, the more coding that must be done and the more data that must be collected to support turn replay. Already I have eliminated range arcs/circles from historic consideration. That means the arcs/circles will not appear and disappear during the course of replay, but rather they will stay on/off based o…

I was wondering if there's any plans to update simplot since I have been using it a lot recently and there's some quality of life that I'd like added. Specifically, A way to put an aircraft into a loitering state without waypointing the same circle 20 times as well as a way to give orders to a bunch of selected units instead of one unit at a time.

SimPlot 2.3 Beta for MacOS View File This is an experiment in using SimPlot on Intel 64 bit MacOS. The dmg file will download but must be activated by clicking on it in the download pane of the browser or double-click on it using Finder (in the Downloads folder). The dmg will open as an attached device (sorry--there is no installer yet for SimPlot). If a window pops up showing the SimPlot2.app file, please close it. Running SP2 from that window will only provide a temporary storage space for the application. Using Finder, create a new sub-folder in your Applications folder (ex: SimPlot2). Drag and drop the SimPlot2.app f…

Good afternoon! please tell me (if possible) how are the additional rules for the Harpoon 3 edition that are described in the South Atlantic War Scenario Book formulated? I have the latest edition of this book, but it was written for Harpoon 5. I like Rules book '87 better. Thank you.

  16. Good morning, So I am reading through the rules for the first edition. The example of play that is described is confusing me. Maybe I'm just not getting it, or maybe there is a typo. Is there errata anywhere for this edition? My problem is: 9-6 is 1-1 6-9 is 1-2 It says to always round down. Can someone explain the 6-9 becoming 1 to 2, I'm just not getting it. I'm stuck, and this is going to bother me until I figure it out. Thank you in advance. -Byron
