September 2, 2025Sep 2 While running scenario, the GE crashed without warning multiple times. Attached are saved game files, GE and Message Log. Tried running without AI ToolBox. If more saved Game files are needed they are available. Same thing happened yesterday, but while trying to recreate the issue it stopped occurring. September 2, 2025Sep 2 Are there steps you can provide to reproduce the crash (ideally from a particular saved game file; I see two in the rood of the zip file)?
September 4, 2025Sep 4 Author The reason for the extra files is I have no clue what causes the clue, or when it actually happens in the game. Using the interactive saved games I have all the saved games if needed. I was attacking plane groups with air to air missiles. Using 2025.025 update today on my laptop, while attacking planes with both air to air missiles and guns the GE crashed. There is no warning the GE just closes. Even if I play from an older saved game somewhere along the way the GE closes without warning. It drives me crazy that I don't have any better info for you to investigate the issue. I tried playing without DonT's Ai box.and ToolBox. Both times the GE crashed today I was attacking the same bomber group. The Groups ID is Red group YdA a group of bombers and EW AC. September 5, 2025Sep 5 I think this relates to the use of either toolbox or Lazgui-extn which both collect information on stores used and the seemingly automatic use of cannon by air group FuA attacking air group YdA. It's not a problem that has occurred before but then I've never seen the apparent automatic engage A2A with cannon. In the saved game YdA Attack etc this occurs at time 40:12. If before that you change the course of FuA to avaoid coming within 3 nm of YdA all is good, if you then steer FuA back on a collision course you get the crash. If you have neither toolbox nor Lazgui-extn operating there is no problem either.
September 5, 2025Sep 5 I've given eric some homework on this but I'm not home and forgot my power pack and now have no operational computer. What really strikes me as strange is that the blue air group seems to attack with cannon with no orders to do so. It's current course (which I checked and is an attack course) seems to me to indicate it is intercepting one of the ac groups to the NE. You can even cancel its course and give it an out and return to the vacinity of the red group and it will open fire with cannon with no instructions. Its a bit like a vessel with aa engaging automatically.
September 7, 2025Sep 7 In the legacy (non-commondb) BattleSets, certain aircraft (with certain loadouts like Intercept) are assigned 4 bursts of air to air cannon. If the planes when flying get close to enemy aircraft, they will attempt to dogfight all on their own and ideally shoot down the opponent. In other words, you are seeing exactly what the game is supposed to be doing.

Then I'm positive its the code in toolbox and AIWindow that collects StoreConsumed info and its not upto speed with this type of cannon. PS It's a pretty neat idea I think, what fighter pilot wants to wait for orders to save his skin 😄
September 8, 2025Sep 8 @eeustice, any chance you can assemble a test scenario in HDS9? AI side should have unarmed transport aircraft, Player side should have F-14 or something with an Intercept or similar loadout (so that it will try to use guns in a dogfight position. Fire up the game and play until the planes are about 4nm apart then get a save just before the interceptor tries to dogfight. Don or I will be able to use that to troubleshoot the StoreConsumed code.
September 8, 2025Sep 8 Author I have been running my HDS9 scenario all day with DonT's Toolbox and AI box. The GE crashed. I removed ToolBox and just ran the AI window. The GE crashed with just the AI Window as I expected it to do based on information from DonT.

I just got enough done in a resaved version of erics saved game to be fairly sure it's the problem but didn't have enough battery to try some code upgrade. I suspect I foolishly assumed any storeconsumed passed info would relate to an item in the database and included no checks. The fix should be easy if thats the case. The slow bit will be remembering what I did as it shares the info with AARData for game analysis over multiple sessions of game play. I don't think the problem is in the StoreConsumed code although I didn't get time to test it in LAZGui. I suspect that the pointer passed (i think its either the consuming unit or the mount or both) is going to be nil in this case but I didn't check for that possibility.

September 10, 2025Sep 10 Try the test toolbox.dll in the attached zip. Don not run an AIWindow.dll while testing. Let me know if the problem is fixed and I'll do a update version for both toolbox and AIWindow in the downloads. ToolBoxFixLegacyCannon Crsh.zip
