In 2017, the continuing conflict in the South China Sea boils over. Japan and the USA will stand aside as Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and an already beaten Vietnam try to take the SCS back from China. Happy Birthday, Tony!

Battling my way through it, rainman. The distances and the geometries involved make it an additional challenge!

There are real life lessons in here, for sure.

Mínimum victory condition achieved when 3 days 23 hours 28 minutes game time remaining.

- Victory achieved just after some Australian F/A-18A did sunk a Chinese DDG (Type 52C?). A total of 12 Chinese warships sunk at this moment, most fast attack missile crafts, except another DDG.

- 37 aircraft (most Flanker variants, two Il-38SD errant in the Vietnamese shores and a Y-8MPA) are the Chinese air losses, including some 6xSoar Dragon high altitude drones. Also 3 naval helicopters.

- A Chinese submarine sunk (actually a mine).

- The ASEAN loses at this moment are 18 aicraft, including some Australian F/A-18A, a few Flanker variants, 1xP-3T updated Thailandese Orion,1xTanker, and some Hawk Series 200, F-16 and F-15SG.

- The higher loss of lifes came from a Singapore ex-Sweden submarine sunk in a minefield.

- Only light damage in three bases attacked by groups of some 24 Chinese cruise missiles, another bases were attacked but after a hard defense not damaged (HMAS Darwin exhausted all her SAMs defending Labuan of a single first attack, but the base was not damaged). Damaged bases are: Ho Chi Mihn City, Vietnam, 28%, U Ratchathani, Thailand, 9%, and Udon Thani, Thailand, 4%.

(I play with my personal DB, with slighty reduced PH values, most in old missiles, and increased ECM values. Because that very probably other player can higher shoot-down numbers and losses in both sides).

A great scenario, indeed!

At last Total Victory achieved by the Blue/ASEAN side with 3 days, 3 hours, 53 minutes remaining.

The amphibious ships are yet at some at least 205 nm South of their first destination, the destroyed Chinese airfield ZTa, and the Chinese Tu-16 apparently did not in action against land or naval targets.

- A total of 16 Chinese warships sunk and 5 damaged at this moment, most fast attack missile crafts, except some 5 DDG.

- 79 aircraft (most Flanker variants,at least 4xJ-20, three Il-38SD and two Y-8MPA) are the Chinese air losses, including some 8xSoar Dragon high altitude drones. Also 11 naval helicopters.

- A Chinese submarine sunk (actually a mine), and later a Kilo II approaching near Labuan.

- The ASEAN loses at this moment are 51 aicraft, including many Australian F/A-18A, a few Flanker variants, 1xP-3T updated Thailandese Orion,2xTanker, and a lot of Hawk Series 200 and F-16 and two F-15SG.

- The higher loss of lifes came from the previously mentioned Singapore ex-Sweden submarine sunk in a minefield, probably by an ATM with a SET-65.

- Chinese ZZa airfield ZZa damaged at 67%, and ZTa airfield destroyed.

- No more Chinese attacks against the ASEAN bases, only the previous light damage in three bases attacked by groups of some 24 Chinese cruise missiles, another bases were attacked but after a hard defense not damaged (HMAS Darwin exhausted all her SAMs defending Labuan of a single first attack, but the base was not damaged). Damaged bases are: Ho Chi Mihn City, Vietnam, 28%, U Ratchathani, Thailand, 9%, and Udon Thani, Thailand, 4%.

Achieved major victory with 2d16h33m to go. (I self-impose sortie limits, PGM inventory, and day/night restrictions).

The island bases were pummeled and then assaulted by paratroops dropped from C-130 Hercules.

The two closest Chinese bases at Hainan Island and on the mainland were also destroyed.

Udon Ratchathani was the only friendly base damaged, but heavily (41%) and so I moved surviving aircraft to another Thai airbase.

Only two friendly ships were lost, a pair of Vietnamese vessels that were operating a little too close to the action.

Curiously, Hawks proved to be workhorse in the strike role, but also suffered the most losses. Friendly air suffered about a couple dozen casualties.

Further notes and observations:

* Chinese cruise missile attacks were nasty, especially with a lack of good friendly radar coverage, but constituted the bulk of the Chinese firepower that quickly petered out

* The air threat was reduced to roving J-20 pop up attacks

* The Chinese naval threat was minimal, too far from friendlies and exposed to air attack by Blue

* Friendly surface shipping did not play much of a role at all, being too far from the FEBA

* No neutrals?

  • 1 month later...

Finally started this having only accomplished starting on some loadout changes and checking out my forces. Let's see if I can finish it before the end of next week!

  • 2 weeks later...

The first clashes have occured and my numbers don't look great. When the Su-35 arrived on the scene I took losses until the LR AAMs were used up before some Gripens finished 'em off. The J-20 has appeared but not in a shark-like predator kind of way as yet.

Not sure when I'll get to play more but am certainly looking forward to it, strikes against enemy surface targets are enroute...
