January 28, 201313 yr As I tinker with window positioning to help people not lose windows, please ponder and answer the poll.
January 28, 201313 yr Author The game currently opens maximized on whatever screen the game launched from. Since multiple displays have become common, you might get your game nicely organized across two screens, close the game and when you re-open you have lost that positioning because the game maximized on the first screen. I tend to think I would like the previously used position and size to be used when I next start the game (i.e. answer Yes on the poll). If it wasn't possible to make the window that large (you undocked your laptop, changed screen resolution or screen DPI) it would reset back to defaults. Thanks!
February 6, 201313 yr For a while I was using a second screen on my lap top and this issue was a big pain, as I sometimes used the lap top away from the second screen and had things like popup assistant hidden from view:(
February 6, 201313 yr Author Okay, an incredible minority of users has sided with me so we'll give it a try in an upcoming build and see what mayhem erupts. Hopefully in 2009.074
March 25, 201313 yr As long as you sanity check if screen changes (as the person above who sometimes had 2nd monitor on laptop, sometimes didn't) I'd love to keep it the way I had it laid out.
March 29, 201313 yr Would there be a chance to utilize a second device like laptop or tablet as well? I'm aware that there are some solutions like iDisplay that stretch a desktop to those devices. I wonder if something like that can be built-in. Maybe more appropriate for the wishlist thread
March 31, 201313 yr Author That might be a wishlist one yes. I've dreamt of auxiliary information on separate devices (i.e. show me all of my aircraft statuses on my tablet, the scenario orders on my phone, etc.). Interestingly enough there is a up and coming programmer who has been writing ExportDLLs that could do just this sort of thing.
March 31, 201313 yr One note on this: I play HCE in a VM, and I have two screens, one being a 24" at 1920x1080, and one a 19" at 1440x900. I'm using Vbox, so I can tell it which screen to use with just a click. The current Harpoon saves the last used positions wonderfully. However, it will happily load the bigger screen's position onto the smaller screen w/o any protest, and just leave the windows hanging off the edge. Probably works because nothing is completely offscreen, so upper left positions are valid? To be clear, I'm not switching screens while Harpoon is loading. Just loading on the 19" after running last time on the 24". (It's not a major issue, so if fixing this is hard, don't worry about it. ) Edit: After further thought, as long as it will go back to default if a window is offscreen (i.e. can't be grabbed and moved) then it's fine the way it is.
April 4, 201313 yr Author Thanks mavfin, you nailed my initial logic (making sure upper-left of each window is visible, ignoring the other corners). Now that I know there is a tester I'll work to improve that logic.
April 5, 201313 yr Thanks mavfin, you nailed my initial logic (making sure upper-left of each window is visible, ignoring the other corners). Now that I know there is a tester I'll work to improve that logic. Next time I have it open, I'll move it so a window will be offscreen completely on the small screen, and see how it does. Edit: Tested. Even better than I expected from what you said. It *only* reset the window I had pulled far enough to be completely offscreen when I started it on the smaller screen, and left the others in place. Perfect! Sequence: started GE on bigger screen 1920x1080. Pulled left edge of Unit window almost to right edge, far enough it would be offscreen at 1440x900. Exited. Changed screens for the VM. Started GE at 1440x900. Unit window is back in default place over to the left, other windows still in saved spots.
