October 18, 201213 yr From Time's Battleland blog [excerpt] The Myth of "Surgical Strikes" on IranBy David Isenberg | October 18, 2012 For all the years that the world has focused on the confrontation between Western nations and Iran, oceans of ink have been spilled over many aspects of its nuclear program ... Yet, almost nothing has been written about one critical factor: the impact on Iranian civilians, if the U.S. and/or the Israelis were to attack Iran's nuclear facilities.
October 18, 201213 yr I honestly thought, based on the topic title that it was going to be about the need for boots on the ground for BDA, if not for making the D itself.
October 21, 201213 yr Well, as far as I'm aware, the current political leadership in Iran has only forced their civilians to make due with fewer western 'necessities' IE the newest IPOD/Apple accessory or product, Gucci or DG products, etc. Most western luxuries can be had in Iran. It is not a third world country as most people assume when they think of the region. I personally think that if a war did happen, civilians would be affected to the same level that Iraqi civilians during and after the Gulf War were-loss of power, short term loss of critical services, and reduced security. The National Government would probably find its security apparatus severely damaged but not even remotely close to crippled.
October 22, 201213 yr However, petrol prices have gone up a great deal, while the Iranian currency has now entered the joke category assigned to the old Italian lira, the Zimbabwean dollar before denomination and the Somalian shilling - it's about 40,000 rial to the dollar.
