October 15, 201213 yr This thread idea is initially to compare the both controversial LCS designs with other alternative designs, in service, future or projected. Basically the parameters of comparation are those of cost, size, weapons (also in relation to size), crew size (and consequent fatigue levels), speeds and ranges, but extensive to all the other parameters, as sensors. The thread is also extensive to other conceptual alternatives, as replacement for another type of conventional warships, as FFG or FFL, or ever the replacement by another tactical or strategical concept, as UAV, manned air power, swarms of low technollogy boats or hired pirates.

January 27, 201313 yr Author The Dutch heavy OGPV (Ocean-going patrol vessel) Holland-class, perhaps as the LCS should be, also with some mine detection capabitily, but with only 22 knots speed, and as quoted and as in the LCS case, replacing some frigates with those less armed and cheaper OPV (from Mer et Marine, in French. March 12, 201313 yr Author Oh, oh, oh, Indonesias has one LCS type 2 (Trimaran) and has three more on project !!! http://www.defensemedianetwork.com/stories/indonesia-launches-new-class-of-large-trimaran-missile-boats/ And she's build with fancy materials, like LCS and DDG-1000 !!! What is remarkable about this project is that this is the first time such an advanced ship has been produced in a developing country. North Sea Boats says the use of carbon foam sandwich composites on this scale in naval application is “unprecedented” outside of Scandinavia and is representative of the current state of the art in both maritime composites structural engineering and production technology. A large portion of the materials were supplied by Gurit, through their marine division in New Zealand, SP – High Modulus. While some of the Gurit core came from China, the carbon material was sourced from various countries.

March 12, 201313 yr Author Regrettably the DDG-1000 bridge is apparently build in similar composite-balsa wood sandwich ...
