HC Game Start

Featured Replies

It seems that at least one type of submarines stopping when they shouldn't is involved with how the scenario is started (i.e. if you use File\Load User Scenario the subs don't stop but if you do File\New... they do). Loading scenarios and saved games (not to mention saving them) is almost unbelievably convoluted.

HC Game Start

  • GE Load a saved game
    • Auto-selects battleset

    [*]GE Load a user scenario

    • Auto-selects battleset

    [*]SE Load a user scenario

    • Auto-selects battleset

    [*]Select a battleset

    • GE Load a BS Scenario
    • SE Load a BS Scenario
    • SE New Scenario

What other game start situations are there? The only one that I can think of that doesn't fit the model above are custom battlesets where the battleset cannot be derived purely from the scenario or saved game file extension.

How does starting the GE from the command line/ HC launcher tie in with this? I almost always use your HC Launcher (which I understand is really a command line launch).

Hi Don,

I think the command line options fit into the model of the original post. Right now the launcher does make you specify a battleset even if you've selected a user scenario/save from which it can pick the right battleset.

In the game Brad says that he prefers picking the battleset first and then only facing the scenarios and saves that apply to that particular battleset so he accepts more clicks in exchange for the filtering of the list.

HCE is already a 'click fest' so no, I don't mind the extra clicks at all.

Probably a force of habit more than anything. Twenty years of the same behaviour will do that to a person. :P
