Not sure how this would be modeled...unlimited range and unlimited "weapons" with a range of only 0.1 miles (to model claws, jaws, tentacles, etc.)? But we should have it. How else can we recreate such classics as...

"It Came From Beneath the Sea" (in which we are told that the United States Navy "is not entirely incapable of speed.")

"The Giant Behemoth" (which beats the crap out of a couple of freighters before the British Navy tracks the thing down and disposes of it)

"The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" (which sinks a fishing boat and a lighthouse before meeting its end at Coney Island Amusement Park)

Not to mention Godzilla...when he isn't trying to level Tokyo (I like that in "All Out Monster Attack" one of the Japanese naval officers does ask, "Why does he always pick on Japan?") a couple of the movies involve fairly complex battles. "All Out Monster Attack" includes a full assault by several modern Japanese naval vessels, most of which do not fare well since the film assumes that Godzilla's radioactive breath weapon has a range of a couple of MILES. It also does not help that cruise missiles appear to only hurt Godzilla enough to make him really, really irritable. (Godzilla probably needs his own special entry in the database.)

Many classes in the HUD-4 do not have any description listed. The following is an attempt to provide some basic text that can simply be cut and paste into the database by Gunny whenever it is convenient for him to do so. Facts (dates, etc.) were gathered from Wikipedia, but I have tried to make sure I have not used the actual wording or phrasing that occurs in the Wikipedia articles. Obviously, if any of these are wrong, etc., please feel free to post corrections so that Gunny can use that information.

Here are the submarine descriptions. They are very basic, but for now I figure they are better than nothing. If anyone has any ideas for fleshing any of them out, please feel free to post them. The idea here is to give Gunny something he can simply check one last time to make sure there are no stupid mistakes that I left in by accident and then paste right into the database.

For a few classes, I was stumped. I could not find or figure out a good description. Please add your own suggestions!

Just a quick word (a tweet? as a reference to another topic) to inform that I've started to integrate Mark's (to whom I send my thanks) text edits in HUD4 1.11 (expect this one AFTER 3.11 is released: reason many scens need to be adapted to HUD4, so I don't wish rebuilders being overwhelmed with new version every 2 weeks, but don't worry, 1.11 is being started).

The :RPG-7/14 (second-to-last item in the weapons part of the database) lists the warhead as doing 0 damage points. I am assuming this is an error.

Antonov An-24

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonov_An-24

"The Antonov An-24 (Russian: Антонов Ан-24) (NATO reporting name: Coke) is a 44-seat twin turboprop transport designed and manufactured in the Soviet Union by the Antonov Design Bureau from 1957." --Wikipedia

Very similar to the An-26, which is already in the database, but I didn't know if it was different enough to need its own entry. Over 1,000 of these aircraft were built and nearly 1,000 of them are still in service today.

Vidyut class missile boat

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vidyut_class_missile_boat

"The Vidyut class missile boats of the Indian Navy were an Indian variant of the Soviet Osa I class. These vessels formed the illustrious 25th "Killer" Missile Boat Squadron, which sunk 2 destroyers, a minesweeper and various other vessels of the Pakistan Navy during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971." --Wikipedia

(I learned something new today. The Indian navy re-uses hull numbers. Do you have any idea how confusing it is when there are two similar classes of ships built pretty much right after one another and they BOTH have a "Veer"--K 40 and K 82, respectively, and the latter is actually the lead boat in the Vidyut class but I guess they did not want to call BOTH classes the Veer class? Wow. I'm sure the Indians had a good reason for doing this, but it seems really confusing to me.)

HUD 4 v1.1 b10

Editor's note: Platform rejected, since it's exactly similar to the original Osa I design already present in the DB. Indian entry of the countries annex modified in HUD4 v1.11 as this class was missing.

FG

Editor's note: Platform rejected since it is exactly similar to already existing platform in DB. HUD4 v1.11 entry modified from An-26 to An-24/26.
