"IN EVERY CLIME AND PLACE" The 40th new scenario of the year! A Cold War scenario with NATO attempting an amphibious landing somewhere on the coast of Norway. The passages of the Greenland-Iceland-United Kingdom [GIUK] Gap remain an intense focal point even in time of peace. The GIUK Gap is THE single most significant choke point for Russian merchant and naval shipping. These waters are also rich with abundant fishing areas and valuable mineral deposits and disputes regarding them are common. The resources that Russian once counted on are no longer guaranteed and a hungry Bear is a dangerous thing, indeed. At the same time, the Western Democracies …

  3. REMAIN CALM: #2 POISON OASIS The 39th new scenario of the year! New World Order Battleset #3: Algerian Conflict In July 1994, the unrest in Algeria that had been simmering for years finally exploded into a major armed conflict. The terror campaign that had been carried out by Islamic extremists since the early 1990s, reached an awful crescendo when they finally seized power in the country. Algerian government forces, demoralized and fearful of repercussions against their families, lay down their arms and capitulated to the rebel army by August 1994. It did not take long for the new Islamic government to gain support from Iran and Libya for its anti-We…

CRUISE CONTROL The 36th, 37th, and 38th new scenarios of the year! This scenario follows Katyusha. After a month-long war in Southern Lebanon which saw thousands of Katyusha rockets landing in Israel, the UN Security Council has enforced resolution 1702. With Lebanon weakened and unstable, Syria felt it was in her best interests to occupy the country. Beirut has come under attack and Western nations are coordinating a massive effort to repatriate their citizens. This scenario is a re-make of a Harpoon Classic scenario written by Mark Gellis and has been re-made for Harpoon 3 with the author's permission. Author: Mark Gellis, Freek Schepers,…

  5. Here's a nice report from Liuzg150181 re-printed with permission: Taken from my blog entry: http://liuzg150181.tripod.com/blog/ "Perhaps almost always, a pc game session against a human player - especially up against a veteran with tactical and strategic cutting-edge - would be much more pulsating and exulting than against the built-in AI which is more often than not of absymal or haphazard performance. No, the game is not about killing whales using harpoons(so environmentalist please don't flame my blog!), or that matters. As clarification the 'Harpoon' game is air and naval combat simulation game based the board game conceived by former naval officer Larry B…

UNIFIL The 34th new scenario of the year! Another scenario straight from the headlines! This scenario has been tested for compatibility with Harpoon3 ANW v3.7.0 After a month-long war in Southern Lebanon which saw thousands dead and thousands of Katyusha rockets landing in Israel, the UN Security Council has accepted resolution 1702. Israel's deep strike on Iranian WMD sites has done nothing to reduce the threat from Hezbollah. It's all up to UNIFIL, now. The UN mandate is to: 1. Enforce a cease-fire in Lebanon 2. Disarm/destroy Hezbollah in Lebanon 3. Implement an arms embargo against Israel and Hezbollah 4. Prevent IDF missions …

Here's an excellent After Action Report by Peter Frank. It is re-printed here with permission from the author. In the most natural way I'm playing with my own country: The Netherlands. In the mission orders I found an interesting remark about the superior AAM's (Air to Air Missiles) and the superior AEW. After a few minutes of hard thinking I found the solution and it worked quite well in the game. Started off with sending 2 Apaches airborne from Gilze-Rijen bound for the French Demolition team in The Hague. At the same time two pairs of F16 equiped with AMRAAM airborne from Leeuwarden, along the coast to the South. The first pair went feet dry app…

  10. Katyusha The 33rd new scenario of the year! Another scenario straight from the headlines! This scenario has been tested for compatibility with the Harpoon3: ANW simulator Beta patch v3.7.1 Syrian-backed Hezbollah is raining Katyusha rockets on Northern Israel. Israeli intelligence suggests that Hezbollah has over 10,000 such rockets flown in daily through Damascus from Tehran. Iran has an advanced missile program building anti-ship missiles and ground-attack missiles of various ranges and with ever-increasing accuracy. Katyusha is a terror weapon, but if Iran decides to supply Hezbollah with modern missiles and advanced guidance packages, then Israel i…

Klaus Behrmann's New World Order: Uppercut Bottom line up front: This was a wonderful scenario to teach humility and patience to the trigger-happy commander such as myself. Personally, I disliked the second SAG to the west - their presence is neither necessary nor explained, as far as I could see. They do offer a few Harpoons and Tomahawks, but nothing the main battle group couldn't deliver themselves. Besides... by the time their missiles strike, as a Pakistani I have no assets to speak of anymore, anyways! On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed this simple but quite challenging scenario. Give it a few days, and I may just try the NATO side. Basic Data: …

NORDKAPP The 31st new scenario of the year! The tenth installment of the "21st CENTURY OCEAN WARS BATTLESET" battleset has been released. When President Gorbachev was notified in 1989 of a plot to bring down the Berlin Wall later that year, he made several crucial strategic decisions. The Russian president decided to suppress the East-German revolt, speed up the privatisation and efficiency focus in the Russian state industries, and invest in maintenance, spare parts, and training for the military. For President Bush and his successors, the emergence of an Eastern European market and the stabilisation of the Middle East meant they could peacefully …

  19. Here's another excellent AAR. It is reprinted here with permission of the author: I'm not an old hand at this game so after a few attempts to work out the interface and how its done, this was my first "proper" game. Only Women and Children was the scenario - in short, the British evacuation of Hong Kong after a Chinese invasion. I'm playing the Brits. Starting assets were two frigates (a Type 23 and a Type 22 Batch 3) and two destroyers (the Brit AA destroyers with Sea Darts and not much else) guarding a convoy, a whole bunch of cruise liners and tankers at Hong Kong. For whatever reason, those four surface ships have no helicopters, which proves quite a …

Here's an excellent AAR. It is reprinted here with permission of the author: 24 December 2003, 00:00:00 Zulu: First I took some time to study the scenario; what units are available and the best tactic to eliminate as many enemy targets as possible. Several aircraft are already airborne. 4 Backfire-C [no payload] aircraft have been ordered to return to Yelizovo AB. 4 groups with 4 Backfires each, armed with AS-4 Kitchen missiles are cruising east of Misawa. They have to close to a distance of less than 190nm in order to launch their deadly payload. Few fighters, as well as EW/AEW units, are airborne. My naval assets are 9 ships and 6 submarines. 2 SSK KILO …
