Here's an excellent AAR. It is reprinted here with permission of the author: I tried Power Sweep from the NATO side. As I started the game, I got a passive sonar contact from my brit SSN that was behaving as a submarine; it course was quickly plotted to be right towards me so I calculated intercept time at 2 hours and started moving Kobben at 12 knots at periscope depth to cover the area left by my SSN. Two hours later the sub, now confirmed as Victor was at 6nm and two 81 knot torpedo's 'flew' towards it. destruction was instant w/o any chance of counterfire! I next moved the Brit SSN at 20 knots (it would not go to Flank) to cover the Norwegian Ko…

MATCHPLAY & OIL ON THE FIRE Here are the first two PlayersDB scenarios for the upcoming Harpoon3: Advanced Naval Warfare simulator. The game hasn't been released, yet, but Freek Schepers has been busily testing the Beta version and feels that these two scenarios are ready to go in case there are any other Beta-testers out there who are bored with testing the same old scenarios and would like to try some new material. MATCHPLAY Terrorist attacks on the Belgium Royal family have left the Dutch Crown Prince next in line to the throne of Belgium. Popular mourning and an uprising has quickly resulted into civil war between the French-speaking Walloons i…

Sandstorm The 28th new scenario of the year! New World Order battleset #3 - The Algerian Conflict - #1 SANDSTORM In July 1994, the unrest in Algeria that had been simmering for years finally exploded into a major armed conflict. The terror campaign that had been carried out by Islamic extremists since the early 1990s, reached an awful crescendo when they finally seized power in the country. Algerian government forces, demoralized and fearful of repercussions against their families, lay down their arms and capitulated to the rebel army by August 1994. It did not take long for the new Islamic government to gain support from Iran and Libya for its anti-W…

Here's another After-Action Report re-printed with permission from the author. The conflict started quite, French planes were buzzing overhead and I managed not to annoy them into hostility. I used the quite of the pre-dawn morning to drop Gurka's around the three Dessert Forts. Egyptians were not known for night-fighting after all. They were reinforced during the day but communication problems with my Indian friends prevented good damage reports, so as the conflict went on I supported them with flights of hunters in an attempt to breach the Forts to 50% damage. Fighters were dispatched overhead BP Torrey Canyon and the BP refinary. They strafed some dows …

Here's another After-Action Report re-printed with permission from the author. For the first time since the Slag in de Java Sea in 1942 a joint UK/Dutch TF was going to war under Dutch command. Our mission was to prevent an invasion of the ABC-islands and reinforce them with marines. Initial operations went easy. Venezuala appeared to remain neutral and only some C130s were detected. US Navy recon units were out in force. I started flying my recon planes to find the two invasion forces that my intel had reported might be under way. I detected some patrol craft and a few separate destroyers and after 2 hours my recon plane was fired upon by a destroyer. The fi…

In Harm's Way [spoiler Alert] A Harpoon 3 scenario By Mike Mykytyn I assumed command and promptly launched air patrols to survey the situation. Immediately a band of gunboats was spotted lurking in the islands in the Strait of Hormuz. Cute. Those band of pirates were in an area that was off limits to me but I knew that it would not stop them from attacking me. I would need to keep a wary eye on them so I sounded General Quarters and jamming turned on. A second helo was investigating the mass of shipping in close to Bandar Abbas. It managed to identify some other gunboats before it was blown from the sky like a clay pigeon. Bummer. Do not make that mistake again…

Here's another AAR by Dave Steinmeyer. It is re-printed here with permission from the author. AAR: Indian [spoiler Alert] A Harpoon 3 scenario By Freek Schepers As I started the scenario, I had a bit of trouble locating all of the transports I was supposed to have. I eventually found the thirteenth as part of one of the FFG TF east of the base. Here's what I did, I sent ten ships NW at flank to get the hell out of Dodge before the hell I figured was gonna break loose did so. They were to link up with the CG/DDG TF off the Horn of Africa. That part of my plan went off without a hitch. The two remaining transports were sent at flank to the ENE to link up …

Here's an epic AAR by Dave Steinmeyer. It is re-printed here with permission from the author. AAR: Malakka [spoiler Alert] - Thailand A Harpoon 3 scenario By Freek Schepers Ok, as I take my initial inventory of what I have available, I'm none too happy. The ONLY air assets ready to fly are a pair Sea Kings out of Port Blair. No options but to launch one. Other than that, I've got 6 Falcons and 4 Tigers on Ready5 out of Korat and Surat Thani respectively, 6 more Falcons Ready30 at Takhli, and one Orion Ready30 at U Tapao. It's gonna be pretty damn hard to get a clear picture of what's going on initially. Now for orders... I send the Indian carrier…

The True North Strong and Free The 23rd new scenario of the year! When President Gorbachev was notified in 1989 of a plot to bring down the Berlin Wall later that year, he made several crucial strategic decisions. The Russian President decided to suppress the East-German Revolt, speed up the privatisation and efficiency-focus in the Russian state industries, and invest in maintenance, spare parts, and training for the military. For President Bush and his successors, the emergence of an Eastern European market and the stabilisation of the Middle East meant they could peacefully cooperate with, though quietly dislike, Russia. However, Europe found itself more a…

[spoiler ALERT] Scenario: The hunt for Red Xia Author: Herman Hum / Claudio Magnatti AAR by: Frans Koenz Side : Russia The story. The counter-offensive is almost ready but, prior to making this move, the Chinese nuclear option must be eliminated first. Thanks to strong co-operation from US intelligence, the defensive arrangement of the two nuclear sites along with the position of the Chinese SSBN has been obtained. A coordinated attack has been prepared and the Xia must be sunk within 30 minutes from the air attack on the missile silos in order to avoid a nuclear response. My orders: Proceed to the reference point and sink the the SSBN Xia in co-…

[spoiler ALERT] Scenario: Opening Moves Author: Herman Hum / Claudio Magnatti AAR by: Frans Koenz Side : Russia After an unprovoked attack on Russia by the PRC, Petropavlovsk remained operational and the deployed fleet elements only had the barest of weapons required for self-defense. My orders were to bring back the nuclear submarines to Petropavlovsk for replenishment and re-armament within 80 hours. They have only been loaded with limited munitions in accordance with the restricted training schedule. Only a few air-assets were available at Vladivostok. I was advised to engage only the units that posed an immediate threat. The game: 4 SS(G)N …

This AAR was posted by Frans Koenz on StrategyZoneOnline.com and is re-printed here with the permission of the author. AAR CAMPAIGN #12 THE CHANNEL WARS Scenario 3: Quotient. Scenario by: Herman Hum and Brad Leyte (CV32) Side: France Right after start of the game, UK launched a massive air attack on the French TF. I directly launched all Rafale fighters to intercept the enemy and managed to destroy all attacking aircraft (70 fighters, 3 Nimrod MR.2P and 2 Sentry AEW.) In the meantime, a British Trafalgar-class submarine was spotted. I launched an ASW aircraft to locate the submarine and sank it with torpedoes. Now it was time to plan a French attack…

AAR: Broken Arrow [spoiler Alert] A Harpoon 3 scenario By Paul Bridge Captain Takayuki read and re-read the nuclear release authorization of the orders, once more. Aboard the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, he was the only man who truly understood the enormity of those orders. He had been a boy living outside of Hiroshima the day the world changed. The commander of Strike Fleet Atlantic had ordered his ships to spread out in case of nuclear attack. Evidently, if the United States was willing to cross the nuclear threshold, once again, then they better to be ready for the other side to do the same. He looked on as the nuclear depth charges were loaded onto w…

Operation Wizard The 3rd new scenario of the year! The eighth and final installment of "The Cyprus Affair" battleset has been released. NEW WORLD ORDER SERIES: THE CYPRUS AFFAIR CAMPAIGN #2 When the NSC made good on its promise to deliver SA-10 Grumble SAM systems to the Greek Cypriots in the spring of 1995 despite Turkish protests, the stage was set for another conflict in Cyprus. The presence of the advanced weapons shifted the delicate balance of power as it put nearly all aircraft operating from the Turkish side of the island at risk. NATO was embarrassed when regular Turkish forces stormed the island a few months later. It had not been a…

The First new scenario of the year has just been released! Incoming Mail is a rebuild of a scenario from the original paper rules of Harpoon as was published in "Battles of the Third World War." It is Dave's fourth scenario effort. Thanks for sharing it with the community. The Soviets have two weapons that can reach NATO convoys in the Atlantic: submarines and long-range aircraft. Long-range bombers on the Kola peninsula can easily hunt the Atlantic. With Iceland in Soviet hands, however, they can attack at will and their range would be greatly increased. A standard NATO convoy crossing the Atlantic would consist of 40-50 merchant ships. Eight to ten…
