120 MORE Harpoon scenarios! A total of 250 releases this year! On January 28, 2007, David Ennis released 117 of his personal scenarios for the Harpoon community to enjoy. At the time, this was the record for the single greatest publication of Harpoon scenarios in a single day. As records are wont to do, this one stood for just 66 days. Today, after getting permission and full consent from AGSI, we proudly release 120 Harpoon 3 scenarios for the PlayersDB. These scenarios were originally made for Harpoon2 and have now been re-made for compatibility with Harpoon3 and the PlayersDB with the consent of AGSI. With this release, more functional scenarios are…

Fellow Harpooners, In the last couple of years, I have focused on Harpoon 3 ANW, using the HUD-3 and then the HUD-4 database. One problem is that there are not many new scenarios for the HUD-4. I've written a few, but I really want to see the HUD-4 get more support. As I've said a couple of times, it is not going to work if I am the only one writing scenarios for it. I've put out a call to HUD 3/ANW players to get involved in writing more scenarios, and I thought I should let HC players know about it, too, because many of us do play both versions, even if we like one or the other a little better. If there is anyone out there who has thought about wri…

“Assault on Zion,” from the HUD3 GC1 battleset AAR by Mark Gellis Taking the Israeli side…looking for PLO boats…must sink them before they do bad things… This scenario was prepared for the HUD-4 (v1.1 b10) simply by opening it in the scenario editor and rebuilding all platforms; the revised scenario was then saved. Scenario seems to load properly. I made a point of keeping an eye out for database errors. In this scenario, I saw no problems with weapons firing, ships not having any fuel, or any other database errors. I may have missed something, but nothing that was vital to the scenario. I did notice in the rebuilt scenario in the scenario editor that…

Pason-2: “Channel Engagement” Scenario by Ralf Koelbach. AAR by Mark Gellis Played on November 4, 2012 Pason-2 was prepared for the HUD-4 (v1.1 b10) simply by opening it in the scenario editor and rebuilding all platforms; the revised scenario was then saved. Scenario seems to load properly. I made a point of keeping an eye out for database errors. In this scenario, I saw no problems with weapons firing, ships not having any fuel, or any other database errors. I may have missed something, but nothing that was vital to the scenario. Looks like a nice, simple “search and shoot” scenario. 13:01. I set up a simple zig-zag course up and down, north an…

"Somali Pirates" Author: Freek Schepers Game Engine: ANW 3.9.3 Database: PDB My first impression: Looks like an usual scenario. The thematic issue is up to date. I´m curious how this will work out for Nato side. November, 1st, 2008, 12:00 - On we go! Ok, mission is to guard the Norway, Kimi and Austrain Trader. Thus I have to find them and vector my vessels in their directions. 1. 12:02 Found the three HVUs and plotted intercept courses for my ships. Oh Lord - so many ships on the ocean and so few guardians! 2. 12:50 Freek is really tough with the player. Just detected that he has unloaded the Harpoons from Nato´s ships 3. 15:20 Waiting…

The Taking of Sakhalin, from the HUD3 GC1 battleset AAR by Mark Gellis I am taking the role of Japan. It is 1994 and I have to escort amphibious ships to a landing point on Sakhalin. The Russians, not surprisingly, are eager to stop me. They have a task force in the area and some submarines, including an Oscar, according to my intelligence briefing. I have my task force, a trio of submarines, and about 20 aircraft at Sapporo. Before starting, I set up patrol missions for the submarines, as I am playing at full realism and will not be able to control them otherwise. I’m sending all three on sub hunts. This scenario was prepared for the HUD-4 (v1.1 b1…

[spoiler ALERT] Scenario: Opening Moves Author: Herman Hum / Claudio Magnatti AAR by: Frans Koenz Side : Russia After an unprovoked attack on Russia by the PRC, Petropavlovsk remained operational and the deployed fleet elements only had the barest of weapons required for self-defense. My orders were to bring back the nuclear submarines to Petropavlovsk for replenishment and re-armament within 80 hours. They have only been loaded with limited munitions in accordance with the restricted training schedule. Only a few air-assets were available at Vladivostok. I was advised to engage only the units that posed an immediate threat. The game: 4 SS(G)N …

SPOILER ALERT THE BACKYARD II: FINAL SHOOTOUT The Cold War finally went hot and furious as battles arose around the world. This scenario deals with a final U.S. multi-carrier attack supported by Japanese forces in the Western Pacific. The U.S. forces have neutralized all but one of the Soviet fortresses in the theatre. Now it is time to finish the job. This scenario was originally written by Ralf Koelbach for Harpoon Classic Commanders Edition and has been re-made for Harpoon3 and the PlayersDB with the consent of the author. But beware, the Soviets have reinforced their last bastion to the utmost. For best results, this scenario should be played with both…

AAR Backyard 2, Part 2 During the first 16 hours of the operation, my aircraft and submarines were rather successful! 23 Soviet surface vessels, including capital ships, such as the Admiral Gorshkov and the Kiev [both CVHG], 2 BCGN [Frunze and Admiral Ushakov], 4 other cruisers, 5 destroyers, 6 patrol craft, and 4 non-combatants were destroyed. All combatants operated in the Sea of Ochotsk. The helicopters and S-2 Viking took out 7 submarines, including 1 OSCAR-II class SSGN. Submarine #8, an Echo II mod, was destroyed by a Chinese Han-class submarine. The F-14 performed very good as well: 59 fighters [MiG-25, MiG-31, and Su-27 Flanker], 44 bombers [Tu-95 Bear,…

This AAR was posted by Frans Koenz on StrategyZoneOnline.com and is re-printed here with the permission of the author. AAR CAMPAIGN #12 THE CHANNEL WARS Scenario 3: Quotient. Scenario by: Herman Hum and Brad Leyte (CV32) Side: France Right after start of the game, UK launched a massive air attack on the French TF. I directly launched all Rafale fighters to intercept the enemy and managed to destroy all attacking aircraft (70 fighters, 3 Nimrod MR.2P and 2 Sentry AEW.) In the meantime, a British Trafalgar-class submarine was spotted. I launched an ASW aircraft to locate the submarine and sank it with torpedoes. Now it was time to plan a French attack…

AAR Hugo's Folly #1 Flight of the Governor -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Herman talked Eds and me into trying our hand with scen#1 of Hugo's Folly. This scen is made by Herman, tested by me for the PlayersDB. So I did have an unfair advantage of knowing the scen. I played Netherlands. Intel said an invasion by Venezuela of the Dutch ABC-islands was imminent but I was not authorised to fire first. My mission was to bring my fleet to St Maarten and to extract the Governor and millitary staff by Fokker plane and helo's. Thinking it over I decided the politicians in The Hague were dreaming if they thought…

AAR MP: Matrix Siege -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This morning I played Matrix Siege against Rene Haar. Matrix Siege is an old Harpoon Classic scene converted to ANW/PlayersDB by Herman Hum. It covers an exercise in the Kattegat between two US warships and about 15 European light frigates and fast attack craft. Rene chose to play Europe and I played the US. I launched my Cobra gunship to start recon took both ships out of the formation and moved them independently south at speeds I hoped would make them mistaken for neutrals. Rene switched on the radars on his Norwegian patrol boats and although …

SPOILER ALERT AAR Old versus new #2, Part 1. Before starting the game, I always explore the scenario [Where is what] and make notes on paper; I launch the aircraft I need in the first stage [mostly, available AEW/EW/ASW and fighters] and re-arm aircraft if necessary; I plot course for the naval taskforces and submarines, plot ASW-missions with the formation editor, etc. etc... It is always a challenge to engage the massive and technical advanced Armed Forces of the USA. In this second [of 3] scenario, I play Europe. This scenario is btw, one of my favourites: +++ Here are the Freek’s orders: #2.0 BATTLE FOR EUROPE This is the secon…

AAR (SP) „A Fight to the Death“ – playing Soviet side H3 ANW 3.8.0 RC11 Player´s DB 7.4.7 Pentium 4 2,93 Ghz / 1Gb RAM 1. Introduction This scen is one of my all-time favourite ones. I wrote about playing it MP as Soviet side and losing without any chance. Winning it against the AI is possible, but not so easy…. 2. How it worked 1994-12-19; 12:00 Start I am lucky this time! My CVGB is in the North of the map, not so much away from my land base and it is unlikely that there was a Nato CTF between them. Instantly I launch every AC stationed at Kevlavik. I sent my Backfires and Badgers North-West and station them directly over the CVBG. Ke…
