I am looking for the defences that were set up in the Dardanelles in the Cold war, colorfully enough, the Turks apparently got some 9.4inch guns from the UK, but is there anywhere were I can find what else they had to defend the straits up to Istanbul? Thanks!

Easing back into Harpoon and want to set up some simple scenarios to experiment with the variious weapon systems. I'm using Clancey's RSR as a template for setting up Iceland as a Soviet base against which to conduce air attacks, which leads to a couple of questions: 1) As I see it the original four battlesets are the only ones that that include the Soviet Union, right? 2) The only way to adjust the weapon systems present at a base are via the Platform Editor, right? For example, as per RSR, I would like to add 4x SAM6 launchers, so I would have to go to the Platform Editor to do this - however, if I remember correctly that would not be possible for the orginal …

File Name: First Navy Jack File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 18 Sep 2012 File Category: Middle East A Harpoon Commander's Edition (HCE) scenario for the Middle East Battleset. This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. In 1980, then Secretary of the Navy Edward Hidalgo directed that the US Navy ship with the longest active status should display the First Navy Jack until its departure from service. With the decommissioning of the carrier USS Kitty Hawk in May 2009, the honor of flying the First Navy Jack passed to the USS Enterprise. Now, during the final deployment of her career, the Big E has been diverted from her return voyage to take on one…

File Name: Okean 80 File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 14 Sep 2012 File Category: GIUK A Harpoon Commander's Edition scenario for the EC2003 GIUK Battleset. This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. Okean (Ocean) 70, conducted by the USSR during April and May 1970, was the largest exercise held by any navy since the end of WWII. Hundreds of surface ships, submarines and land based aircraft participated simultaneously in several worldwide operating regions, including the Barents, Norwegian Sea, Baltic, and Mediterranean, as well as in the Pacific. Five years later, in April 1975, another major Soviet naval exercise, dubbed Okean 75, repeated the…

File Name: No More Mr Nice Guy File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 13 Sep 2012 File Category: WestPac A Harpoon Commander's Edition scenario for the Westpac Battleset. This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. An American effort to deter aggression on the Korean Peninsula is met by unexpected resistance from the Peoples Republic of China. Caught deep inside the Yellow Sea, an American carrier strike group must fight to stay alive and protect the reinforcements already enroute to Inchon. This is a large and very busy scenario, a monster of sorts. RED has more than 40 bases and over 2,000 aircraft at its disposal. You will likely need to adjus…

File Name: Red Line File Submitter: CV32 File Submitted: 12 Sep 2012 File Category: Middle East A Harpoon Commander's Edition (HCE) scenario for the Middle East battleset. This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side. During the past few years, and even more so during 2012, the international news headlines have been dominated by stories of the suspicion surrounding the nuclear activities of Iran, whether that nation is actively pursuing a nuclear weapons program, and if so, the mortal threat faced by Israel. Slowly but surely the story has been building toward a potential flashpoint, with increasing concern about the possibility of unilateral action …

This scenario is designed for play by the RED side. Scenesetter: (Taken from “The BRICS Conflict – A Brief History of the Third World War (2016 to 2018)”) A little known fact of the year 2012, was the cause of the Indian blackout that parlyzed the nation on 30 and 31 July. File Name: Pearl Harbor Midget Submarine Action, Day of Infamy File Submitter: broncepulido File Submitted: 22 Aug 2012 File Category: WestPac Midget Submarine Action in the Pearl Harbor Attack. This scenario is designed to be played from the Japanese/Red side, or the American/Blue side, but is better to play first the Japanese side. The Day of Infamy 7 December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor is almost only remembered by the Japanese carrier-based air attack, but a very controversial, analysed and with few results midget submarine attack was in course a few hours earlier, and it was near to denial the surprise to the main Japanese attack. Later midget submarin…

This scenario is designed for play by either the BLUE or RED side. Most folks have probably never heard of the Agalega Islands, which lie about 400 nm northeast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Their remote location is key to their importance, especially from the perspective of burgeoning blue water navies like India and China. The islands straddle a vital shipping route for a great deal of com…

This scenario is designed for play by the BLUE side only. The nickname Bedonian Express was applied to certain strategic reconnaissance missions conducted by US Air Force SR-71 Blackbird aircraft during the Cold War, and in particular, those missions repeatedly carried out through a corridor that followed the coast of Poland and the USSR in the Baltic Sea. These fl…

What says the forum ... Is it better to have a scenario that is "epic" in nature - spanning the entire length and breath of a region (i.e., a fight on two-fronts) OR is it better to break things down a bit and examine each front separately? I'm trying to decide on how I should craft one of the upcoming BRICS installments.

File Name: The First Convoy, September 1939 File Submitter: broncepulido File Submitted: 18 Jul 2012 File Category: GIUK First Convoy in the Phoney War, 14-18 September 1939. A Harpoon Commander's Edition scenario for the EC2003 Battle for GIUK Gap Battleset and the HCWW-101110 World Wars era Platform Database. That's an essay of building an historic and realistic scenario, and as consequence, something boring for most of the time, with some moments of terror, as in the real world ASW operations, in this case in the Western Approaches. And probably most of the played scenarios will be finished with a draw. Playtesting after built the scenario reflects …

Although I have years of experience with Harpoon (dating back to PNP days), I am a mere padawan when it comes to scenario design. I have toyed around with the thought, but lately have begun making notes concerning a series of scenarios. One issue I struggle with is using the mission clock in the design editor. Could one of our resident Jedi Masters provide some insights? Does the clock work on a scale of the hours in the scenario or does the mission clock trigger the event X-hours after the beginning of the scenario? Also, when you create your scenario, do you typically script a timelne for the engagement? I just want to design some realistic situations and not ove…

After Action Report for 'Running on Empty' A scenario by Clemens 'Running on Empty' is a new HCE scenario for the Westpac battleset. I played the scenario from the BLUE side using GE Build 2009.064 and the HCDB database. Scenario Background Orders I am in charge of a large formation of ships (32 in all) comprised of roughly half warships and half commercial shipping (mostly oil tankers and LNG (liquid natural gas) carriers). All but one of the warships (the Bunker Hill class cruiser USS Chosin) belong to the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), including the new 'carrier' Shirane. Having just cleared the Malacca Straits, the group must now m…

Can you guys go through your scenario uploads and use nice small thumbnails? I think it is more important to be able to read the information than to see a photo or screenshot overtake the web browser. I would propose a maximum width of 320 or so pixels, something like... Or if you think I'm way off base I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!
