October 14, 200916 yr File Name: Fortress Kevlavik - Nato side File Submitter: RKoelbach File Submitted: 14 Oct 2009 File Category: GIUK DB Used: Stock Database Authors: Ralf Koelbach Battleset-GIUK: .sc1 - Orig - Original Fortress Kevlavik - Nato side A scenario for Harpoon Classic Battleset GIUK (stock) by Ralf Koelbach October, 14th, 2009 This scenario derives from a discussion at Matrix Forum regarding the original version. In those days scenarios were mostly written for two sides playable thus creating the balance problem. Since this old GIUK 6.0 scen has always been one of my favourites I´ve written two modified versions - one focusing on the Soviet side, the other one on the Nato side. This one is designed to be played from Nato side. Will you stop the invasion and hold Kevlavik? Have fun! Ralf Click here to download this file
October 15, 200916 yr Author Hi, How do you capture the scenario screenshot ? I use a freeware tool called "FastStone Capture". You can draw a rectangle around the area you want to snapshot. THe picture is saved as jpg and that is it. Regards, Ralf
October 15, 200916 yr Author Hi Brad, Thanks again for sharing your creations, Ralf. You´re welcome. Hope the guys will like it. I think it is really nasty and much sharper than the original. Maybe I´ll rebuild more of those classical scens this way: Making two challenging one-sided scens out of one two-sided. But first I´ll have to finish an ANW one, including takeover of land facilities Regards, Ralf
October 15, 200916 yr Thanks for the tip about"FastStone Capture" (and the scenarios), I will try it.
October 16, 200916 yr SPOILER ALERT . . . . . Achieved Minimum Victory with 4:14:50 to go. Probably got lucky. Managed to slip the Sturgeon class attack sub USS Hammerhead through the Sovs' outer screen and cozy up next to the main body before releasing my Mk 48s. Scored a kill on the Minsk and the Ivan Rogov, and a damage on each of the Kalinin, another Kiev and a Sverdlov. Hammerhead evaded the first enemy torpedo - probably delivered via SS-N-14 - but a second claimed her. Lost eight Phantoms of various flavours (USAF and RAF) while fighting off the Flankers, but managed to down all incoming bomber raids without taking a hit. I will play through toward Total Victory (hopefully). Fun scenario!

October 16, 200916 yr Achieved Total Victory at 4:09:42 to go, following a Buccaneer anti-ship strike. Love that ole Buccaneer! Lost a few more aircraft, A-7E Corsairs and Phantoms, in the raid but no other losses. Thanks again for the enjoyable scenario, Ralf.
October 19, 200916 yr I played through this a few days ago. First thing was setting up the air defence network, positioning assets to protect my 2 surface groups, and defending from the inevitable soviet air raids. I wasn't expecting there to be a soviet group near stornoway, with one of the soviet recon planes leaking through to detect my group, they loosed off a missile strike. We managed to take down all the missiles, and the soviet recon plane, and start striking the group with air to surface attacks. I was able to slowly pummel that Soviet group to rubble, after the first strike from the buccaneers took out half the group, the nimrods finished off all but a frigate. One of my subs shot it's harpoons, sunk the last ship, but was then sunk by an undetected torpedo, perhaps another sub was in the area. With that group out of the way, we concentrated on the soviet carrier group. I hit them with an anti-radar attack, losing 2 planes in the process. I also pushed planes into the top right corner of the map, to interdict any bomber streams. I got lucky, as we took out the screening flankers and fulcrums, then pushed forward again and detected at least 3 groups of bombers, all of whom ended up at the bottom of the ocean, one single fighter became an ace in a single battle, I'd split him from his wingman to cover more ground, he happened upon a group of bears (badgers maybe), shot down 3 of them with his missiles, then another 2/3 with the gun. It was a turkey shoot. They didn't get into range of either of my groups, although there was one group which had a couple of Bear D's in it that was very close to illuminating my surface group. The end for the soviet carrier group came pretty quickly, I massed a large strike group, nimrods, orions and the buccaneers, and they proceeded to level the centre of the group, leaving only the outer ships, an Udaloy, 2 Sovrenmenny and a Krivak, and I recieved Tovic at about 4:20:00:00 Status: Blue: Subs - 1 Destroyed Aircraft - 2 Destroyed Red Carriers - 1 Destroyed Ships - 18 Destroyed, 1 Damaged Aircraft - 154 Destroyed Helos - 19 Destroyed
