New Version 2005.b09b released

Featured Replies

Can someone give me some guidance on how to use the Platform Editor under the new release (b09). The install program didn't put any files into the db_utils subdirectory, so I copied them from the old version. I have 2 icons labeled bb_start edit and db_end edit, that I assume are used to prepare the db for editing and then save it. Since I kept the previous version of Harpoon in the AGSI directory when I installed the new one in the Harpoon Classic Commanders Edition, I still have access to the old PE, and I'm able to access the new DB from there. When I try to create a shortcut in the new program group pointing to the DB, I get a load of grief about being unable to edit the file because it was designed for Access 97 (I use Access 2003). This was never a problem before the latest upgrade.

Any suggestions? I really want to get everything working correctly before I remove the old version in favor of the latest one.

Thanx:

What I would do...

1. Keep the old directory until HCCE is released and you have that configuration working.

2. You already copied the db_utils folder over, great.

3. Copy pfData2002.mdb and pfBuild2002.mdb into the HCCE folder.

4. Copy start_edit.bat and end_edit.bat into the HCCE folder.

5. Run start_edit.bat to create the commondb folder and associated files.

6. Go into the PE (pfBuild2002.mdb) and do an import, this will overwrite what you see in the editor with the contents of the HCCE database from AGSI.

6a. If you are given security warnings about the database, get to the Tools menu, then Macros, then Security, set the level to low to kill security warnings (at your own peril but generally safe, malicious Access databases aren't exactly the attack of choice for nasty people).

6b. For some reason I cannot get the prompt about Access 97 format being read-only. I've seen it and it can be ignored (you can still edit the data, you just can't change the layout/design of the platform editor itself). I recently updated to Office 2003 SP2 and wonder if that message went away then.

Caveats:

The PE does read registry entries on occasion (the battleset path) and I'm not confident AGSI is aware of this and made the changes.

Wacky and almost surely doesn't apply but the actual pfBuild2002.mdb file could be marked as read-only, right-click the file and do properties, if Read-Only is checked, uncheck it and click OK.

Let us know how it works out and if you figure out the 97 format read-only message (or more specifically why it doesn't always appear).
