I found using Show All to give the Akula a path at Cruise, below the layer did wonders, especially if the LA creeps towards the Akula.

On performing test I was able to coax the Akula into using its conventional torpedos insted of the missile dropped torps.

 

However the Akula fired roughly 5 torpedos 1 at a time at the LA class submarine, all of which were detected.

 

While I was being prompted to turn the sonars on because the Akula was within active sonar range, I recieved no message to tell me to turn active sonars on due to incoming torpedos for any of the torpedos that were fired at the LA class.

Nice catch StalinTC, you found code working right even though it seems like it wasn't. See emcon_ai log contents below for evidence that it works.
