What are the future weapons of choice for screening a surface group from enemy surface and submarine attack? Some years back it was thought that the humble naval gun was an antique, but with ever improving missile and area AA defenses new high technology artillery rounds are being studied and developed for both anti surface and subsurface attack.
This scenario is is intended to be the benchmark (current equipment) in a series  in which some of the weapon types newly developed or being investigated are at you disposal in a large scale exercise between AUKUS members USA (Red side) and combined AU, UK and guest NZ (Blue side).

HMAS Perth (39) forms the centre piece of the Blue side, along with UK Astute class SSN Arafura (Hypothetical RAN AUKUS unit) you should be able to get the upper hand over the American buddies playing Red.

Now with a little spare time to try these two scenarios.

As usually I did a little research on the platforms involved, and in this case found this curious novelties about HMAS Choules L100:

- Installed a forward Phalanx mount (2018???)

- Surprisingly, installed a luxurious CEAFAR (very probably CEAFAR-1S variant) AESA radar, four faces on top of the bridge, one in each corner (see photo), installed circa January 2024.

The first link has interesting comments guessing at why the ceafar was added and if it be a step towards some offensive armaments. RAN has a bit of history of swapping weapons between ships to meet deployment requirements so maybe some of those guesses will be close to correct. But I guess the old girl would succumb totally to anything much more than a flesh wound for a full combat ship so no matter her defences would always be a gamble putting her into hot waters.
