Hi everybody,

I'm trying to reinstall my old HC on my new PC, but I don't seem to remember well the steps to have the whole thing working.

I installed it by the hcgold_full.exe installer, but now I cannot use the EC2003 default battleset, since I receive the message the the game can only be played by the registered COMMONDB version. I have my serial number and the key Bruce sent me in the old days, but the registration seems ininfluent for the game. I can actually play the other default Battleset.

 

Can someone help me with some advice? My HC version is the 2003.15, Dec 19, 2003 (release)

It sounds like you are entering a HC2002 serial number instead of an HC Gold serial number (allowing EC2003). Look in your records for one that starts with HCGOLD. If you can't find it, head to the eSellerate order look-up page and try to retrieve it with the e-mail address you used to purchase HC Gold.

If you never bought HC Gold then it is correct that you only get the pre-EC2003 battlesets as thta is what HC2002 represented.

Thank you very much, Tony, it worked fine. I was entering the HC2002 s/n, not the HCGOLD one. Phew!

 

Now, I imagine we have had a lot of database (and game engine maybe?) updates in this while - would you please point me to the must-have files? And is there a help guide to penetrate the DB update secrets ;-) ?

And should I simply overwrite the old commondb.res and put the .db into the main folder?

Yes, although you should retain a backup of your existing commondb.res file (just rename it, for example) in case there are other unanticipated compatibility problems.
