Hapoon 97

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have Hapoon 97 and have played it for years and love it(crashes every now and then but I set the auto save to every 5 min so I don't loose much

which files can I use if any to add scenarios to play

I also have Harpoon 3 ANW I just don't like the look compared to 97 is there anything I can do?

Thanks

By all means, check out HCE, but if you're looking for HC97 scenarios to play in the interim, there are a bunch in the Downloads section here.

You'll have to do a bit of wandering 'among the shelves' to find them, but generally speaking, anything released prior to 2002 should be good to go with HC97. (Release dates are sometimes found in the Notes for the scenario).

It does indeed take some searching, within the listing for each scenario in the downloads section here you'll see a Battleset listing...

Battleset-GIUK .sc5 - HDS1 - HDS1

anything before .scm in the alphabet will play in HC97.

Wombat has been posting up many old scenarios from long dead websites and bulleting boards so the number of scenarios is surprisingly increasing for HC97 :D

Another good spot to find scenarios is http://www.harpoonpages.com/harpoon1.htm and linked from that page, http://www.harpoonpages.com/hcscene.htm

And yes, do look at HCE, good stuff and getting better all the time, in a few more decades it ought to really be something :P

There's a section dedicated to Harpoon Classic scenarios at the FilesOfScenShare, too.

The ones that probably interest you the most are the Legacy Scenario collections. There's nearly eight hundred scenarios in those two files, alone.

I still have Harpoon 97, and although it plays OK on my Vista system, the SE won't load. It keeps giving me some grief about Full Screen mode and then shutting down. Anyone else have this problem?

Although HCE is far superior to 97, it still bugs me when something won't run.

Buddha, no problems here, the About box says version 1.55c. Both

Wscenedt.exe (HC97) and WSCENWIN.EXE (really from winharp) work fine for me in 32-bit Vista with a screen resolution

The executable in my case is scenedit.exe, and it does attempt to open in a DOS window. I'll have to go through my old backups to make sure, but it's possible I got the wrong executable in there somehow. I have the old 360 Pacific version that I occasionally run under DOSBox, and the file name in there is also scenedit.exe, although the file size is slightly different.
