Steve's Wish List

Featured Replies

Steve's Wish List:

1. Unlimited or maxim-sized database/platforms/weapons/etc

2. ASW search patterns for long-range contacts (suggested by others).

3. Submarine fire control/target limitations. Am I wrong; but currently a sub can fire all its torpedoes at once and at more targets than a fire control system can handle? Also I haven't tried it you but do straight-running torpedoes run "straight" or do they act like homing torpedoes?

4. Submarines must rise to the proper depth to launch missiles and other weapons.... (?)

5. One world map.

6. Ability to accurately simulate world war 1/2 surface combat. (I am aware of the game engine limitations). Including armor thickness/weapon penetration.

7. Can we enter pictures into the database?

8. Most of the other suggestions/ideas submitted by others!!!!

9. Still the best game around.

10. Better SAM engagement rules including ability to break lock and more altitude effects for horizon and target at time of impact. (see prior postings). AI program could include RWR check and altitude adjustment for targeted aircraft.

11. Passive sensors: While air-to-air IR is dealt with in the game, what about the new generation of air-to-ground passive sensors? For example, the Sniper pod in the game appears to do nothing. While in real life it extends the detection and targeting ability of the attacking aircraft, without being detected itself. Include in this "wish" generational air-to-air IR detection "pods". The F-4B/C IR detector is not nearly as good as the Mig-29 or newer detection systems.

12. Carrier and base magazines. While I like to shoot a thousand Harpoons at the Chinese fleet and keep reloading I think I use up the entire US supply in the first 30 minutes of the game. It changes your approach when you have to limit your weapons expenditure or fly into the "whites of their eyeballs" range.

WHAT DID I LEARN TODAY: Alt-A/Alt-D does work to add or reduce the number of weapons aimed at a target!!! After playing Harpoon for 15 plus (?) years my arthritic fingers will now get a well deserved rest! Thank you all! That benefit alone is worth the price of admission, and more!

LOL, thanks for posting up your list.

You can enter pictures in the database, see http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=632 and ask questions as needed.

about submarines, you are not wrong on being able to fire too much too fast at too many. I don't know about the straight runners either to be honest. I was looking at the code recently and at some point in the engagement they do a bit of tracking, but that may be at the very conclusion of the engagement where the range to target has to be fudged anyway to ever get a hit.

Thought of an additional wish, but I don't see how it could be done.

National Crew and Pilot Quality: It would certainly make things more realistic. I'm reminded of the Iraqi wingman who shot down his flight leader's MIG-29 while taking off during Desert Storm.

Are the SAMs respecting the radar horizon of their directors now? Because if the SA-N-6s can engage your Harpoons at max range, a CVN's entire loadout of Harpoons won't be enough to get hits ... <_<

The SAMs shouldn't fire at a target below the radar horizon but they will not lose guidance if the missile or plane later goes below the horizon. This is for playability reasons that it would be an entirely too easy cheat to just pop below the radar horizon until the AI wastes all of its SAMs.

Thanks Steve, could you please also add these three items to your first post in the thread? That helps me get the overview by reading the first post of each wishlist.
