Silent Hunter UK Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 This almost certainly warrants its own thread. Quote
CV32 Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 It does. U.S. Destroyers Fire 59 Tomahawks on Syrian Airfield in Retaliation for Chemical Attack (USNI News) 59 TLAMs is a lot of firepower. Shayrat (home to a couple of Su-22 squadrons) was either hit very hard, or there were other targets as well. Quote
Silent Hunter UK Posted April 7, 2017 Author Report Posted April 7, 2017 It appears that Shayrat is very much an ex-airfield at the moment... Quote
CV32 Posted April 7, 2017 Report Posted April 7, 2017 It appears that Shayrat is very much an ex-airfield at the moment... Yeah, I would think so. Russia had upgraded the airfield after their arrival, but I can't imagine there is much left standing. Quote

CV32 Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 60 TLAMs is a lot of cruise missiles for a couple of Burkes whose primary mission is supposed to be BMD. I wonder whether they bulked up with TLAMs prior to the mission, or whether this was a standard load. Quote

If they were deploying to Sixth Fleet's AOR, a BMD loadout isn't a massive amount of use as any Iranian missiles would pass well to the North. Quote

Depends on the intended target of the ballistic missile, of course, but both Ross and Porter are based at Rota for that very purpose, at least officially. Quote
broncepulido Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 At least in the DB both have 40xTomahawk, very near the 30xship fired in this action! Quote
Silent Hunter UK Posted April 9, 2017 Author Report Posted April 9, 2017 I'm just going to remark that a missile that can travel several hundred miles and go through the 'front door' of a Hardened Aircraft Shelter is the sort of thing that would keep me awake at night if I was a petty tyrant. Quote
