Building 1st Scenario

Are there more detailed instructions somewhere on the web on using the scenario editor than the ones that come with CE? I'm frustrated with the continuous and variable attack settings. I'm trying to launch an attack against an airfield every 15 minutes starting 20 minutes into the game. I believe I entered all input info correctly but don't get an attack every 15 minutes. I have also noticed that once aircraft have released long-range weapons they do not return to base but continue on towards their target become easy targets themselves.

Hello Allan,

great, that you started building your first scen! People here will help you to get things straight.

Some first ideas:

  1. Do you have enough aircraft ready to attack every 15 Minutes? If you assign for example 4 ac to an attack and there are only 4 others left on the base, you will not be able to attack with that frequency.
  2. Wich aircrafts with which loadouts do press on their attack after they launched their standoff missiles? Maybe they have more ordnance on board capable to attack their target? Thus they close in.

Maybe you just post your scen here so that guys can download and check it?

    Happy new year!

I have also noticed that once aircraft have released long-range weapons they do not return to base but continue on towards their target become easy targets themselves.

This is something we are tweaking for the first patch, it will be better but not perfect. This usually happens if the attacking planes do not launch all of their weapons (i.e. they think less than all weapons are required to destroy the target) or if the attacking planes also have short ranged weapons. So for the time being there isn't much that can be done about it from a scenario design perspective except focus on attack planes using loadouts that only have the long range weaponry.

As for the repeat attacks it looks like Ralf has you covered, formation patrols can also drain from the pool (always figure the GE reserves 3 aircraft for each one you define in a formation patrol). So if you have a A-6 ASuW formation patrol with 2 aircraft, the GE will reserve 6 aircraft for that patrol (usually, always an exception). Those same aircraft may not launch on an attack mission if they were reserved for formation patrols.

Ah, looking in the SE I see a difficulty with every 15 minutes! You will have to create four repeat attacks (the shortest interval is 1 hr between attack launches).

1. Variable Attack: Interval - 1 hr, Variance - 0 minutes; Time Delta 20 min, Variation: 0%

2. Variable Attack: Interval - 1 hr, Variance - 0 minutes; Time Delta 35 min, Variation: 0%

3. Variable Attack: Interval - 1 hr, Variance - 0 minutes; Time Delta 50 min, Variation: 0%

4. Variable Attack: Interval - 1 hr, Variance - 0 minutes; Time Delta 1 hr 5 min, Variation: 0%

Good tips from Ralf. Btw, the issue with attacking AI aircraft continuing to press their attack after launching standoff weaponry, that's something that we're continuing to work on to try and get the right mix of AI aggression.
