PE Problem

Featured Replies

Hi, I've newly bought HCE, having previously owned HC97, so the Platform Editor is new to me (I'm also not really familiar with Microsoft Access so this may be a simple problem). I have opened the pfbuild2005 file and created several new installations. I exported the database and opened the scenario editor (with PE now closed). However, only one of my new airbases was visible in the 'create new base' menu. I'm not sure why this is. I deleted my new ones and started again, with a similar result (but this time only two new bases visible). Any ideas? All help is appreciated, thanks.

Each annex (installations is an annex) can only have 2047 entries so you really can't add installations to the DB, but you can replace existing installations. So you might rename Hong Kong to Adak Airfield, update the coordinates, weapons, etc. That means any scenarios you play that were expecting Hong Kong will be out of kilter but usually you can find enough installations to re-task.

The database designers around here are itching for an increase in the limits so that is likely to happen after the first patch.

OK thanks for your help.

Also, there are quite a few 'DONOTUSE' entries in the Installations Annex of the HCE release database.

You can use those first to create new installations if you want to postpone deleting other entries.

Thanks for your help, I've solved that initial problem, but am still having trouble writing new scenarios. Is the 'commondb' folder the only item that needs to be copied in order to switch databases?

I created a new database, and a new scenario to start playtesting. When I attempted to run the new scenario the game crashed (GetAnnex error: ADDIDToListError: expected a disk ID, got 0 (0x0)). So I reverted to the original commondb file, and tried again, my scenario still crashed, as did a battleset scenario in the hc2003 med battleset. I figured that I'd inadvertently screwed something up in the original database, so I reinstalled the game. Then I copied in my modified commondb file and my scenario opened fine. However, the new installations that I'd created had reverted to their original names, SAMs and sensors, in fact they were all back to how they'd started except for their co-ordinates, which remained as I'd changed them.

I'm pretty confused, so any help is appreciated.

Update: Been playing with this problem for a bit, think my main problem is the way I'm editing installations - in some cases I need to remove sensors and mounts from an existing installation. The only way I can see of doing this is replacing the mount code number with zero. This seems to work in the editor but causes the game to crash. I'm getting quite frustrated with this - anyone have any advice? (I'm not really familiar with Access so perhaps I'm missing something).

Thanks :(

If you want to remove particular Mounts or Sensors, just right click on the right facing arrow next to the entry's ID number and choose "Cut". If you still have trouble, please feel free to post here or drop into IRC for some 'live' help. :)
