September 15, 200718 yr Right now after reading I am asking my self about what is the main aim of HCE and H3. So far I guess .... The aim of HCE is a global simulation of Air - Naval (- Land) war with the main focus on gameplay (fun) and following the reality so far it does not brake down the gameplay. The aim of H3 is a local simulation of Air - Naval (- Land) war with the main focus on reality. Am I wrong or right? Dear Admin, please move this topic into another subtopic it it is here at the wrong place.

Dear Admin, please move this topic into another subtopic it it is here at the wrong place. This is probably as good a place as any, Gopher. This question has been the impetus for plenty of controversy in the past, and probably still would incite flames among those people who are firmly in one camp or another. Some community websites go so far as to refuse to acknowledge the existence of the "other" Harpoon, but you won't find any of that nonsense here. There are plenty of players around here who enjoy both versions, without feeling the need to trash talk about the other. We're happier for it. My feeling is that if a person has familiarised himself with the features of each version, and perhaps been brave enough to try both of them, he's probably qualified enough to offer a respectable opinion. What either version of Harpoon attempts to "accomplish" is really very subjective, anyway. Personally, I would agree with you that HCE (and all Harpoon Classic versions, for that matter) tend to portray large scale conflict somewhat better than smaller engagements, and its vice versa for H3/ANW. HCE's gameplay is quick and easy to get into, while H3/ANW is considerably more complex. Overall, IMHO, both have far more depth than we often give them credit for.
September 22, 200718 yr As a player of most versions of Harpoon, (started with H1 on floppy, closely followed by H2 about 16 years ago), I think this is a valid question. Maybe a FAQ or something explaining the difference would be helpful, that way the next guy that asks this question can be diverted to an answer and not cause everybody to duck for cover.

Good idea on the FAQ. However, I'm still going to find a safe place any time this issue is brought up....just as a precaution.
September 22, 200718 yr I trust you guys know there is already an FAQ on the features of the various Harpoon versions posted here (as taken from AGSI). Beyond that, I'm not sure how useful an FAQ would be. It would have to be really detailed to be of any real value, because the differences between HC and H3 are myriad and difficult to describe in words. Perhaps in the end that is what is needed: a really extensive FAQ with screenshots and the works. That would be a rather large project, but not impossible. Thoughts ?
