Israel says 1,300 targets attacked in Gaza Strip

By Craig Hoyle

London

Launched on 14 November, Israel's "Pillar of Defense" operation against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip has so far attacked more than 1,300 targets, the nation's defence ministry says.

One of course should be wary of any casualty figures delivered by an official spokesperson on either side - casualty figure over-reporting (and indeed under-reporting) goes back to at least Dresden, where Goering added an extra zero to the death toll in the official report.

Being cautious about facts and figures released from combatants on any side, of course, goes without saying, and more so when it is filtered through a media outlet. That said, I will say that Hamas doesn't score highly on my reliability meter, and secondly, I didn't see any "casualty figures" in the article?

It's just a general comment - Hamas is now saying over 100 dead on their side.

Okay, thanks. I thought I had missed something.

My academic blonde partner in security affairs sayed me yesterday she has recopilated some 195 articles about "Pillar of Defence"

A bit surprised it took them this long to start questioning the numbers ...

For a start, you're not going to even bother engaging anything that's not heading for an urban area - it's a waste of an interceptor. Also, 'built-up areas' have a surprising amount of open ground, especially mine, so that's more you can ignore.
