November 2, 201213 yr I was just curious what people thought about the ANW DB? What are its main strengths and weaknesses? Having used the HUD-4 for a while, I think I'm going to try my hand at putting together a few ANW scenarios now, just to try something different. Any advice or recommendations? Also, just curious, are any updates planned for the future, especially since I understand ANW 3.11 is supposed to be released fairly soon? Thanks. Mark
November 3, 201213 yr Author Okay, I lied, I ended up going back to the HUD-4 for the newest scenario I'm working on, but I'm still curious what people think of the ANW database, etc.
November 5, 201213 yr Mark, I think the database description says it all, the changelog as well. Dale's modus operandi is to implement platforms from the paper rules in a way that shadows the paper rules as closely as possible. Strengths: * Consistency between platforms. As Dale updated his calculation spreadsheets, the affected platforms were updated. This helps maintain the relative capability of platforms. * Attention to detail trying to get the computer game results to match paper results. This is different from say Darren and HUD in that Darren leaned more towards 'realistic' results but often the best metric was still the paper rules. Weaknesses: * Few platforms in the database * Dale is sailing the seven seas so he can't always answer questions immediately
November 5, 201213 yr Dale is sailing the seven seas so he can't always answer questions immediately This is unlikely to improve. I don't think he would mind me saying that he has 'moved on'.
November 28, 201213 yr Author That's what I figured. A question...could the existing ANW db now be used as a resource (source of data, ways of setting up certain kinds of weapons, etc.) for HUD-4? Gunny would want to get permission from Dale to do this, of course, but maybe it would help with certain entries in the HUD-4. Just a thought...
