February 16, 201214 yr From Air Force Magazine, Feb 2012 issue [excerpt] The Scourge of the Zeppelins By John T. Correll For almost two years, British airmen were unable to stop the German airships as they bombed England with impunity. Even before World War I began in August 1914, the British were alarmed by the huge dirigibles built for the German armed forces by Ferdinand von Zeppelin. These massive airships had plenty of room to carry bombs and were easily capable of crossing the English Channel from bases in Europe.
February 17, 201214 yr The Zeppelin is a very appealing topic for me. The last month returning from Berlin I purchase in the Swiss Air flight a watch rememoring the 100 years of Zeppelin (beware, justified adds !!! ) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zeppelin-100-Jahre...1/dp/B000S3376I http://www.watchshop.com/mens-zeppelin-100...CFeontAodmmhgSg Mmmm, a good deal I see, in the plane only 190 euros, not pounds .... And we should remember the number of attacking fighters shoot-down by the defensive Zeppelins: one or none !!!
February 18, 201214 yr Not mentioned in that article is that William Leefe Robinson, who brought down the first Zeppelin over Britain flew out of what would later become RAF Hornchurch, which is in my local area and would be a famous Fighter Command base.
