Steel Typhoon

Featured Replies

The long awaited Steel Typhoon is now available for pre-order.

From the CoA website:

Building on Clash of Arms' critically acclaimed "The Rising Sun" Steel Typhoon features 36 scenarios covering the biggest and most famous naval battles of WWII in the Pacific: Rabaul, Truk, the Marianas, Leyte and Okinawa plus hypothetical scenarios that challenge the players with historical alternatives!

Designed specifically for the Command at Sea 4th edition rules, Steel Typhoon, along with the data supplements "American Fleets" and "The Emperor's Fleet" completes the picture of the USN versus the IJN in the Pacific Theater during the latter half of World War II. Steel Typhoon includes three full-color countersheets with all the ships, aircraft and game markers to make the Pacific War come to life on your tabletop.

Designed by Ed Kettler, Steel Typhoon is the culmination of over a decade of research and testing.

Now available at Clash of Arms here.

I've read the blurb at CoA. Does anyone know more about the game ...

1. is Steel Typhoons a pen and paper game like harpoon?

2. does anyone know if you can control individual sub, plane, or ship (like in Harpoon)?

3. Or is the game more "massed combat" of navies rather than individual units?

4. solitaire?

1. Yes, it uses the Command At Sea rules, part of the Trilogy of games (Harpoon {modern}, Command at Sea {WWII}, Fear God & Dread Nought {WWI}).

2. Yes you can control the individual platforms

3. More the tactical than the strategic so I think that would be more towards individual units. Still it won't be calculating armor penetration for an hour for a single hit.

4. There is no automated opponent but much like Harpoon you can game out situations playing all sides alone if you so desired.
