U.S. Navy Beefs Up Anti-Sub Capabilities

Posted on August 14, 2011

by DAVID AXE

The U.S. Navy appears to be quietly modifying some of its Arleigh Burke-class destroyers with a new sonar system possibly optimized for detecting increasingly quiet Chinese submarines.

Photos (before and after) of the destroyer USS Lassen show a recent addition to the 9,000-ton vessel’s fantail — her back-end — that could be the interface for a towed sonar array.

The 'before' and 'after' pics:

Could just be where the LCS plugs in for refueling and towing

Can you model that into HCE/HCUE for us TonyE? The towed array, not the towed LCS.

It's already in the current (and at least the most recent preceding) DB. Look for the modernized Arleigh Burke Flight IIA. The modernized Bunker Hill CG also has it. It's quite a nice piece of kit ... :)
