November 20, 201015 yr Just wondering if all the other databases are compatible with HCUE that I've just bought, wanted to try the WW2 database and some of the scenarios. Secondly is there any easy way of swapping databases or is it easier to have maybe 2 installations? Also is the Commanders Ultimate Edition compatible with the beta versions, as in can I install them over the top or should I keep my HCE install for that?
November 20, 201015 yr Just wondering if all the other databases are compatible with HCUE that I've just bought, wanted to try the WW2 database and some of the scenarios. Yes, all of the databases available here - excepting a few that are specified for earlier versions of Harpoon Classic - are compatible. Secondly is there any easy way of swapping databases or is it easier to have maybe 2 installations? I would not have more than one installation. To my mind, swapping databases is already pretty easy. You're swapping a single file (commondb.res) if you just playing the game, and not using the Platform Editor. Otherwise you can use Tony's very good Launcher program, which is easier still. Also is the Commanders Ultimate Edition compatible with the beta versions, as in can I install them over the top or should I keep my HCE install for that? HarpGamer is the home of HCE development. The beta versions available here are at the 'bleeding edge' of improvements to the game, and are already well beyond what was packaged for HUE. Of course, beta's are intended for further development and experimentation, and come with that caveat. Check out the beta section of the forums for more information.

Yes, you can plop the latest beta into the Ultimate edition, you don't need to keep your HCE install for that. As Brad said, we're farther out on the bleeding edge with the current betas than usual (i.e. best for those that really want to beta test, not those looking for the latest game experience as a daily driver). So if you have Ultimate, you only need the 2010.### download, not 2009.042 first (since you already have 2009.050 in Ultimate).
November 21, 201015 yr Author Cheers guys, I've kept my HCE install and updated that, will probably just revert to using only my HCUE install eventually! Loving the HC launcher much improved for swapping databases!
November 21, 201015 yr Dear Brad, Dear Tony, I have some questions about HCUE. Don't know if here is the right place to do that. If not, please let me know. - Can we play HCEU with other people? - Was there any AI improvement in the HCUE? (I have HCE in my computer with 2008.044) - I look Matrix Games link. Do you know what "PBEM: No" mean?
November 22, 201015 yr Dear Brad,Dear Tony, I have some questions about HCUE. Don't know if here is the right place to do that. If not, please let me know. I've moved your post here, from the 'New at HarpGamer' announcement section of the forums. Can we play HCEU with other people? No, the Ultimate edition of Harpoon Commander's Edition is not multiplayer. However, see the beta section of the forums for potential future developments toward this end. Was there any AI improvement in the HCUE? (I have HCE in my computer with 2008.044) See the beta release notes for the various upgrades and improvements that have taken place over time. (AI is a broad term that is applied loosely to HCE, and there are many game changes that may impact it). - I look Matrix Games link. Do you know what "PBEM: No" mean? It means that HCE Ultimate edition does not have a 'play by e-mail' mode, as some other wargames do.
