Scenario Design & Discussion

A forum for discussion of scenario design for Harpoon 3.

  1. Started by Silent Hunter UK,

I would like to create a Harpoon scenario in the near future and would like to include one of my favourite fictional aircraft, the MiG-31 "Firefox" from the Craig Thomas novel. Possibles: * A carrier strike * A land mission * An AAW battle with a US version. Maybe 20 on each side. Thoughts?

After designing a scenerio and closing the editor, I'll open the game and open the scenerio that I just created. All of the enemy ships will appear on the screen. This seems to happen after being in the scenerio editor and displaying both sides at once. What gives? Thanks, Steve

Klaus Behrmann's New World Order: Uppercut Bottom line up front: This was a wonderful scenario to teach humility and patience to the trigger-happy commander such as myself. Personally, I disliked the second SAG to the west - their presence is neither necessary nor explained, as far as I could see. They do offer a few Harpoons and Tomahawks, but nothing the main battle group couldn't deliver themselves. Besides... by the time their missiles strike, as a Pakistani I have no assets to speak of anymore, anyways! On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed this simple but quite challenging scenario. Give it a few days, and I may just try the NATO side. Basic Data: …

  4. The 170th NEW Harpoon scenario in the last 12 months! Bluff Cove On June 8 1982, one of the most tragic events of the Falklands war took place. Two amphibious ships embarked with the Welsh Guards were taking too long to unload at Bluff Cove and, when daylight broke, were found and bombed by the Argentine air force with heavy loss of life. Later investigations speak of inter-service rivalry between the British forces, and of a blatant disregard of the basic principles of amphibious operations. Author: Freek Schepers With over 179,000 PlayersDB scenarios downloaded in the last 12 months alone, the PlayersDB has proven itself the unequivocal…

The 74th NEW Harpoon scenario of the year! Advance Subs After the surprise Argentine invasion of the Falklands Islands, the British Defence ministry urgently ordered available Royal Navy units to the area. As had been the case in earlier times of tensions, Britain's nuclear attack submarines, travelling continuously at high speed, would be the first warships on station. The arrival of the first submarines enabled the MoD to announce a 200nm exclusion zone around the Falkland Islands. Argentina, meanwhile, was using her navy to reinforce the garrison in the Malvinas and to establish a blocking force for any early British units. Author: Fre…

The 130th NEW Harpoon scenario of the year! GULF OF SOLLUM On March 7th 1983, at the height of the Cold War, Hr Ms Zwaardvis is leaving Den Helder, Netherlands for a five week underwater transit to Naples, Italy. The SSK has been added to Task Force 69, and will carry out Recon missions of Soviet fleet anchorages just outside the Libyan 12-mile zone in the Gulf of Sollum. The Soviet Black Sea Fleet, faced with being bottled up behind the Bosporus, has taken to basing numerous warships in deep anchorages in International waters off North Africa in the Med. Sollum is the biggest of these. NATO MPA's keep a permanent watch on these offshore bases; …

The 44th NEW Harpoon scenario of the year! This scenario has been tested for compatibility with the Harpoon3: ANW simulator Beta patch v3.7.1 Syrian-backed Hezbollah is raining Katyusha rockets on Northern Israel. Israeli intelligence suggests that Hezbollah has over 10,000 such rockets flown in daily through Damascus from Tehran. Iran has an advanced missile program building anti-ship missiles and ground-attack missiles of various ranges and with ever-increasing accuracy. Katyusha is a terror weapon, but if Iran decides to supply Hezbollah with modern missiles and advanced guidance packages, then Israel i…

  10. I'm working on some ideas for realistic Cold War scenarios involving Soviets, and I'm trying to figure out something. Under what circumstances would you have the Soviet Navy shooting at people, possibly even NATO ships, c. 1985, where things do not rapidly turn into a global exchange of nuclear weapons? Some ideas... 1. Spies on the run. Submarines on both sides probably sneaked in close to enemy shores all the time to gather intelligence, etc. I'm guessing that if those submarines had been forced to surface, perhaps even fired on, there would have been a lot of grumbling from the country that sent them and maybe a tit-for-tat response like sending an ambass…

  12. I'm looking for feedback on a general "outline" for an alternate history World War III I could use to develop scenarios... November 1, 1983. After the Falklands War, having studied British tactics, American assistance, and the economic effects on the West of fighting a war, the Soviets decide to seize control of Western Europe. Their main approach is threefold: destroy as many NATO bases as possible with lightning strikes, sink as many NATO ships as possible with submarines, and conduct a massive land invasion of Germany and France. Once Germany and France are secure, and the Soviets have control of their ports, the rest of Europe can be negotiated with. N…

Historically, there was little loss of life. But what if the organization behind the rebellion was more violent, and Great Britain decided to eliminate the threat, but France refused to allow Great Britain to use force in an area where they were co-administrators? So, the British task force must conduct the raid but it is possible that France will attack them before they even reach the New Hebrides..…

  16. Little curious here. I've noticed in a scenerio that I've designed that on one ship in particular it seems to have a small fuel load. Once going to flank, the fuel time drops to barely 48 hrs. Is this a fuel load issue that the designer can change or has the geniuses here figured out how to make ships less effeciant than others. Thanks again to all whose reply.

34th Scenario posted this year! See for yourself if history could have played out differently at the Bay of Pigs. This scenario uses the Colonial Wars database edited by Paul Bridge. Bay of Pigs On April 14th, 1961, six ships departed a Nicaraguan training camp where they had spent months training with CIA instructors. Brigade 2506 was to land at the Bay of Pigs in southern Cuba to overthrow Castro's regime. Sixteen B-26C Invader medium-range bombers were ready in Central America to support their invasion. Cuba's army and militia, while numerically strong, were thought to be poorly motivated and likely to switch sides when the invasion took place. …

The 75th NEW Harpoon scenario of the year! Caribbean Happy Hour In the last few years, Venezuela made over 4B$ in military purchases from Russia. Su-30 Flanker planes, attack helicopters, and SAMs significantly changed the balance of power in the southern Caribbean. Negotiations continue over SSKs and, in September 2008, two Tu-160 Blackjacks made a surprise visit to Venezuela and flew patrols before returning to Russia. In summer 2008, the US re-activated the 4th Fleet to cover the Caribbean and CVBG George Washington practiced in the area before re-locating to Yokosuka, Japan. This left the Atlantic with just one carrier, Theodore Roosevelt whi…

Diablo The 3rd new scenario of the year! New World Order battleset #4 - Part 1 - The War with UBAN - Indian Ocean Persian Gulf - #2 DIABLO In September 1995, one of the West's not-so-secret desires was fulfilled. Saddam Hussein, the mother-of-all dictators, was assassinated. However, this apparent good fortune has also kindled one of the Western world's darkest fears. In the chaos following Hussein's demise, the "rogue nation" of Iran has taken political control of Iraq. This new nation has further amalgamated with Yemen, Syria, Egypt, and Libya in a new military and economic confederation known as the United Brotherhood of Arab-Persian Nations (UBAN)…
