A really nice setup. The size of the AO stretches the player to cover many bases with very limited resources. Excellent. I started by moving FFs Torquay and Lynx into positions near Akrotiri to add their limited AAA support to the base in the event of air attack from Syria. The Malta MCM squadron also set sail to rendezvous with the inbound Malta Convoy. They were limited in their combat abilities, but some ASW detection gear is better than none at all. SS Orpheus and SSN Tinosa were ordered to set up positions in order to blockade the Aegean Sea. I wanted to keep whatever surface assets that might be there bottled up tightly. Malta launched her long-range r…

File Name: JAPFISH - Sea of Japan File Submitter: TonyE File Submitted: 10 Mar 2007 File Category: Scenarios based on an original HC scenario by Mark Gellis Fish populations around the world have declined due to global warming, overfishing, and other factors. Japan has responded to dwindling catches by fishing closer and closer to parts of the Russian coast where fish are still relatively abundant. It is not clear whether Japanese fishing boats has actually violated Russian territorial waters or, if they have, how often it has happened, but Russia believes its territory is being violated. The situation has become very tense. Russian fishermen have fired shots at …

File Name: Black Rooster (2018) File Submitter: Mgellis File Submitted: 13 Aug 2013 File Category: Scenarios My 27th scenario of 2013... In the near future, France must help its ally Gabon in a conflict against Angola. The 170th NEW Harpoon scenario in the last 12 months! Bluff Cove On June 8 1982, one of the most tragic events of the Falklands war took place. Two amphibious ships embarked with the Welsh Guards were taking too long to unload at Bluff Cove and, when daylight broke, were found and bombed by the Argentine air force with heavy loss of life. Later investigations speak of inter-service rivalry between the British forces, and of a blatant disregard of the basic principles of amphibious operations. Author: Freek Schepers With over 179,000 PlayersDB scenarios downloaded in the last 12 months alone, the PlayersDB has proven itself the unequivocal…

File Name: Sidra Piper (1985) File Submitter: Mgellis File Submitted: 17 Jun 2013 File Category: Scenarios My 20th ANW/HUD-4 scenario for 2013... This Cold War scenario involves Portugal undertaking a training exercise in the Gulf of Sidra. Libya has warned that it will fire on ships violating what it considers its territorial waters. It is possible that this exercise could turn into a very special learning experience for Portugal... (This one turned out to be a surprisingly challenging one when I tested it. The trick is to keep in mind that the two Portuguese ships only have guns for anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense and the Portuguese A-7s, while …

AAR Backyard 2, Part 2 During the first 16 hours of the operation, my aircraft and submarines were rather successful! 23 Soviet surface vessels, including capital ships, such as the Admiral Gorshkov and the Kiev [both CVHG], 2 BCGN [Frunze and Admiral Ushakov], 4 other cruisers, 5 destroyers, 6 patrol craft, and 4 non-combatants were destroyed. All combatants operated in the Sea of Ochotsk. The helicopters and S-2 Viking took out 7 submarines, including 1 OSCAR-II class SSGN. Submarine #8, an Echo II mod, was destroyed by a Chinese Han-class submarine. The F-14 performed very good as well: 59 fighters [MiG-25, MiG-31, and Su-27 Flanker], 44 bombers [Tu-95 Bear,…

31st Scenario posted this year! Freek Schepers has released his latest creation. This is scenario also uses the Colonial Wars database edited by Paul Bridge. Some players might actually still be able to remember the Indonesian crisis as the world held its breath. OPERATION JAYA WIJAYA When Indonesia became independent in 1949, The Netherlands held onto New Guinea, a vast island group in the east of the archipelago. The Netherlands maintained permanent army (KNIL), navy, and air force units on the islands. In the early 1960s, President Soekarno started guerrilla operations against the British in Malaysia and against the Dutch in New Guinea to force th…

34th Scenario posted this year! See for yourself if history could have played out differently at the Bay of Pigs. This scenario uses the Colonial Wars database edited by Paul Bridge. Bay of Pigs On April 14th, 1961, six ships departed a Nicaraguan training camp where they had spent months training with CIA instructors. Brigade 2506 was to land at the Bay of Pigs in southern Cuba to overthrow Castro's regime. Sixteen B-26C Invader medium-range bombers were ready in Central America to support their invasion. Cuba's army and militia, while numerically strong, were thought to be poorly motivated and likely to switch sides when the invasion took place. …

Here is a near future scenario I'd like feedback on. Sometime in the next five years, the Cuban leader, another Castro is assassinated. His successor is not up to handling the crisis and Cuba erupts into civil war, the factions being those who support the old regime and those who want to see a complete change of government, restored relations with the U.S., etc. Within six months, the U.S. decides to openly support the rebels. It sends supplies, but not actual troops. It does, however, cheerfully sink most of the Cuban navy. Just as a precaution. Allies of the Cuban regime attempt to support it, but the U.S. creates a blockade. Not as extreme, perhaps, as the on…

File Name: Operation Southern Guard (1985) File Submitter: Mgellis File Submitted: 10 Jun 2013 File Category: Scenarios My 19th scenario of 2013... This "what if" Cold War scenario assumes World War III took place in 1985. It also assumes that, in case the Suez Canal becomes unusable, some merchant ships and tankers are taking an alternate route around the southern tip of Africa. Soviet forces operating out of Angola will attempt to disrupt Allied shipping. Dutch, South African, and American forces in the area must protect the merchants and destroy the Soviet task force. File Name: Istiqlal on Patrol (2015) File Submitter: Mgellis File Submitted: 01 Jun 2013 File Category: Scenarios My 18th scenario of 2013... In the near future, tensions between Iran and Kuwait have increased. Kuwait sends a few of its vessels to "show the flag" by patrolling the Eastern part of its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). But will Iran consider this a provocation and use it as an excuse to attack? Image: Kuwaiti patrol vessel Al-Garoh. (Source: U.S. Navy photo by Photographer’s Mate 1st Class Kevin H. Tierney.) (Author's note: I found this one surprisingly challenging when I was testing it, perhaps because it is one of those small scenarios…

AAR „Alone in the Snow“ Scenario designed by Herman Hum Based on an original Harpoon Classic HDS-II-scenario Database: Players DB 7.4.7 Game engine: H3 ANW 3.8.0 Release Version Aircraft Logistics on A. Foreword: Herman rebuilds a lot of HC scens, especially those of the HC HDS-II-Battleset, with AGSIs permission. “Alone in the Snow” belongs to the HDS-II-GIUK-Battleset, Herman´s favourite. Sweden´s situation is difficult, but not hopeless: It faces an airborne Russian invasion. Sweden has got several squadrons of fighter-bombers in order to keep his bases intact, especially to save Visby. B. My experience 1. Start is November 21st…

AAR: Broken Arrow [spoiler Alert] A Harpoon 3 scenario By Paul Bridge Captain Takayuki read and re-read the nuclear release authorization of the orders, once more. Aboard the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, he was the only man who truly understood the enormity of those orders. He had been a boy living outside of Hiroshima the day the world changed. The commander of Strike Fleet Atlantic had ordered his ships to spread out in case of nuclear attack. Evidently, if the United States was willing to cross the nuclear threshold, once again, then they better to be ready for the other side to do the same. He looked on as the nuclear depth charges were loaded onto w…

The 265th NEW Harpoon scenario of the year! Assemble in the Antilles This is the third scenario in the "Hugo's Folly" Battleset. Elections in the Netherlands Antilles have seen gains for the political party seeking closer ties to Venezuela and its President, Chavez. The Government has fallen and the legal status of the islands is unclear; with Curacao an independent nation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Aruba, and Bonaire seeking a similar status, and the three smaller islands of St. Eustatius, St. Maarten, and Saba being municipalities within the Netherlands. Early this morning, Venezuela carried out a sudden invasion of the ABC islands…

As CinCPac: The screen was studded with numerous subsurface and unknown contacts from the very beginning. I re-organized my ships within their patrol zones and immediately launched ASW aircraft to prosecute the submarines. Two subs were detected in very close proximity to the Wasp and Yorktown ASW Groups and both died soon afterwards. Subs were being detected all around the board from my sub units. I guess that they must have been tracking them already. An AGI trawler was found near the Aleutians chain. A quick visit by a lone Crusader pilot put paid to his ticket with ammo to spare. These subs had teeth. DDG Byrd detected incoming torpedoes! The Essex t…

The First new scenario of the year has just been released! Incoming Mail is a rebuild of a scenario from the original paper rules of Harpoon as was published in "Battles of the Third World War." It is Dave's fourth scenario effort. Thanks for sharing it with the community. The Soviets have two weapons that can reach NATO convoys in the Atlantic: submarines and long-range aircraft. Long-range bombers on the Kola peninsula can easily hunt the Atlantic. With Iceland in Soviet hands, however, they can attack at will and their range would be greatly increased. A standard NATO convoy crossing the Atlantic would consist of 40-50 merchant ships. Eight to ten…
