June 15, 201016 yr From Ares Blog Scalp Naval Starts Flight Trials Posted by Robert Wall at 6/15/2010 7:26 AM CDT France has begun flight trials of the MBDA Scalp Naval sea-launched cruise missile. The test firing of the MdCN (missile de croisiere naval), as the Scalp Naval is formally known by its customer, the French armaments agency DGA, took place at France’s missile range at Biscarrosse on May 28, but DGA only announced the event June 15. The missile was fired from a vertical launcher which would be used for the operational application on the Fremm multipurpose frigate and the Barracuda submarine. France is looking to field 150 Scalp Navals on Fremm frigates starting in 2014, with the 50 submarine-launched weapons due to come into inventory in 2017.
June 15, 201016 yr Mmm, now it sembles the Barracuda will have a vertical launch missile system with 12xScalp (not modelled in the DB), but it's not 100% sure (only 50 Scalps purchased for 6 planned subs x 12 VLS tubes per submarine ???). Only fuzzy data, for now:http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classe_Barracuda To clarify, the official HCE database (the HCDB) does in fact model the Barracuda class SSN, but only in its provisional form (based on early concepts on what it might eventually look like) and using the Scalp EG cruise missile until more and better information becomes available. (Precisely because of the 'fuzzy' data you identify).
